This is an interesting bit of insight into your life, Terry, and you've shared some knowledge about one of my favourite songs, Save the Last Dance for Me. I'm glad you decided to learn to play guitar. It doesn't matter if you're good at it or not. Music is one of the best ways to keep your mind sharp. Thanks for sharing this.

This is so good, I really wish I had a sixth star to paste on it. It is interesting, flawlessly written, humorous, educational and in every way a delightful read. I very much enjoyed your word choices and your neatly arranged sentences. Everything flowed beautifully. The stories about your youth and later lessons were especially entertaining... even though I suspect you are much better than you care to admit in both singing and playing. Thanks for this little bit of history. I loved it. MM

Hmm, this is very informative and educational and I enjoyed reading this very much. Doc must've taken your fancy and you chose to write about your history and a little about his history as well. It is interesting that he had Polio and ended up in a wheelchair just like me. And you are correct to say that it gave a new meaning to the words Save the last dance for me since his wife was a formal dancer. I love that fact and also that he won so many awards as a songwriter!
Thank you for the musical history lesson.
Jesse

Oh, Save the last dance for me, by Mort Shuman is one of my favourites. I only got to know it in the late seventies and I loved it and loved it ever since. I believe Mort Shuman lived in France by then. Thanks for reminding me. Your musical essay was very interesting. Ulla:)))

I loved the story and learned a bit to boot. You illustrated how writers, especially with music, are less known in comparison to performers. As I pondered that truth, I thought perhaps most writers wish to be in the shadows. Educational and thought provoking makes for good writing. Thank you.

Thank you for sharing this little piece of history and congrats in never giving up on something that you started as a kid and you circle back to someone's song who made history.

Such an interesting piece. I didn't know that about the writer of "Save the Last Dance". I'd like to hear some of the songs your brother wrote. Are they on YouTube?

I write songs too. My latest, "We Stand With You", I wrote for the people of Ukraine.

Sadly, there are no songs of brother on YouTube. He died two years ago, there a few tapes that his daughter still has. Thank you for the review, Terry.

Oh, I am sorry. It sounds as though you had quite a bit in common with your brother. It's a lovely tribute to include him in your writing.

Terry,

What a great little bit of musical education. There was some really fantastic music in the fifties and sixties, and you chose a wonderful one to write about. There is a TV ad for Alexa that features the song and it brings back teenage memories for me. I've noticed that a lot of TV ads are using snippets of music from that era, no doubt they appeal to people of all ages. Bring back the oldies! I find much of today's pop music to be jarring.

By the way, congrats on your second place finish for last month's story of the month. My two entries received a total of three votes. I was surprised that they were even in the running.

Sue, Thank you for reading. The music of the 50s and 60s was great, I listen to it on satellite radio all the time. Thanks for the mention about the story of the month. That is three times in the last four months. I lost to Humperwhistle each time. He is good, so I have no complaint.

I did think it was a real testament to your writing ability to get two stories in the contest, I also thought it unfair to you.

Right now I am going to just do some humor stuff, at least I hope it is funny. Those stories will probably not make it for the story of the month. Unless of course, Mr. Lee Humpwhistle writes one! Terry.

You are welcome Terry. LOL I learned long ago that winning isn't everything, although I've had my fair share of it throughout life. We all have different areas in which we excel. I've been fortunate to be quite good at lots of things. Sort of a Jill of all trades, master of none. Winning is simply a matter of who else is in the competition. Lee is a phenomenal writer with exceptional talent for wringing out incredible phraseology.
