Your poem is super fun, even though the illness itself must be terrible.
I'd never heard about it. That's why I found the info at the bottom very helpful.
Thanks for sharing your talent. Hugs.

Hi Debra,
Oh-oh! I think I have Misophonia! I can't stand it when I'm watching TV, and my wife does her "Jerry Seinfeld" (eating crunchy cereal at any hour of the day)... slurping, crunching, chomping!). I have to do a Snagglepuss then, "Exit. Stage Right!"
I enjoyed your 8-9-5-5-9 limerick.
"Delores dons ear defenders" ... nice alliteration carries this sentence. You could throw in "big" to make 9 syllables, as in line 2 and 5.
(Delores dons big ear defenders)

I didn't realize that not being able to handle intrusive noises was a disorder.

Hugs,
Kimbob

Thank you for your feedback, Kimbob :) I think we probably all have a touch of misophonia , although I hadn't heard of it myself until my daughter 'developed' it. She is fine with most sounds, but the sound of other people eating really upsets her. She's started to wear noise cancelling headphones at the dinner table so that she can still eat with us without becoming agitated.
To me, line 1 has 9 syllables!! Perhaps it's my pronunciation, but this is how I 'hear' the words; De/lor/es/dons/ea/r/de/fen/ders (I pronounce ear, eayer!) Thanks for the suggestion though ;)
    Hope you're well :)
Best wishes as always, Debra x

This a very creative approach to this disorder, and I believe I have very slight problem with noise myself especially when people chew loudly. This is not only a well written limerick, but a gentle reminder about how certain noises affect others. Loved the Author's notes.

Ha ha ha, it sounds like Delores is surrounding by noisy eaters and their slurping is upsetting. Having no table manners can put you off your lunch! A fun Limerick Debra, love Dolly x

That aside, bad table manners definitely are off-putting!

You've shared a lot of knowledge with us in this cute poem and your explanation of misophonia, Debra. This is something I wasn't aware of before. Thanks for enlightening me. :)

You're very welcome, Debra. I'm glad your daughter has found ways to cope with this. I can understand how it could drive someone over the edge if it got really bad. Hugs

This limerick, Managing Misophonia, has the general formatting and shows the readers this odd malady that makes noise even worse than it is normally.

I'm okay on most the sounds except
eating. I do NOT want to hear someone
eating, smacking their lips, ect.
I used to waitress, and I didn't even want to
wait on tables like that, ha ha.
But I never knew it was a real disorder,
how interesting!
I enjoyed this,
blessings...

What a fine Limerick here, and the perfect form, for this particular condition. I have encountered a very few in my lifetime, but yes, it is a real thing, and it causes them great discomfort, even when dining with very refined eaters and breathers.

Love your limericks, and this is no exception. :))

Wow. Misophonia sounds like a terrible syndrome. How can you avoid the sound of breathing. I'm very sensitive to sound and smell but not that bad. I do use earplugs at night.

I like your limerick. You have good form. The presentation is adorable.

Lol! My younger daughter suffers from that. She is perpetually listening to music. Yes, there are some very intelligent women (usually it's women) who are very sensitive to sounds!

Thank you for your kind feedback, Helen :) I hadn't heard of it myself until my eldest daughter 'developed' it quite recently. She is fine with most sounds, but the sound of other people eating really upsets her. She's started to wear noise cancelling headphones at the dinner table so that she can still eat with us without becoming agitated. I'm glad that you are able to relate, although I'm sorry for your daughter...it's quite an ordeal to be so affected by every day, natural noises.
Best wishes as always, Debra :) x

My daughter is almost 30 now, I'm sure beyond the teen years, it will pass. There was a security alarm that emitted a high pitch which annoyed young teen ears only. Lol.
