Well written. Good work. Good sentiment.
My only question is when were we positively 'turned to him?'
Is it only that modern times and modern technology have afforded us the 'advantage' of hearing about the atrocities that used to go unannounced, unheralded? Or mostly against people unvalued (American Indians, slaves, Jews, the impoverished, the foreign).
Best wishes.

    Hello Wayne,
I believe that our founding fathers established this country on Godly principals. Even so, I'm sure that there were slaves or prejudices against others who weren't the same as them. I fear that it's just human nature. Nonetheless, I think that we had a core value that appears to be missing in modern times. Thanks so much for the fine review and comments.
    Have a blessed day.

Oh yes indeed, I think that's the reason that He doesn't destroy the Earyh at the moment, but He certainly will when everyone appointed to eternal life comes into their appointed place, He wants them safe, there are those that it won't make any difference with like Sodom's citizens, yes, Lot, the worldly believer, beautifully written Tom, blessings Roy

    Hello Roy,
thanks so much for the great review and comments. I can't recall the exact wording or where it's at in the bible, but I believe it mentions somewhere about sin coming to fruition before the end. At times it seems like it already has. I hate to think things could get worse.
Have a blessed evening my friend.

Maybe some of the problem is people view unrighteousness in so many different ways. Harm to others should probably be the yardstick, but I see this from the point of view of someone with dear friends as part of the LBGQT community. S & G is always cited for sexual immorality but there seemed to be a lot more wrong there as you say. This is a really tough thing to write about and you have done well.

Thanks so much for your fine review and comments Carol. Unfortunately, if we use a moral yardstick other than the one that God has set up, then what is moral becomes a matter of personal view or preference. One person can justify cheating on their spouse, another thinks nothing of leaving their family or dealing drugs. The law becomes something that we say it is and varies with each person. From the little that I've read about Sodom and Gomorrah, the wickedness abounded throughout the region. It appears that it was common to rob, cheat, and kill on a regular basis and the judges were apparently in agreement with it. No doubt the sexual immorality played a part in the judgement of God as well. I too have friends who are gay or lesbian, and I don't like them any less because of their lifestyle, but I can't go against what the standard is that was set by God Almighty. Sin is sin, and the heterosexual man who engages in immoral behavior is just as wrong as anyone else. As humans we like to assign certain levels of sin to different acts, murder being the worse I suppose. However, if I understand correctly, all sin is grevious to the Lord, thus the need for a savior. Thanks again for your views gal. I'm happy to hear from you.
    Have a blessed day.

Amen! You are so right about your conclusion! Abraham prayed for those cities because his beloved nephew was there. But the next day when he looked over that valley it was up in smoke. Abraham never knew what happened to Lot. But God answered. That's the promise I take away from it. Sometimes, God will answer our prayers but in our own lifetime, we me never know that He answered us. But we should keep praying. Great message, Tom!!

    Hello Helen,
Thanks so much for the great review and comments. It's always great to hear from you gal. You're right. Lot seemed represent the more carnal side of the family. He of course took the better grazing pasture that overlooked Sodom and Gomorrah, and eventually moved in to the town itself. No self restraint. Of course he lost his wife and impregnated his two daughters while he was drunk. I'm glad that the bible didn't leave out all the sleazy, seedier parts of people's lives. It shows that we're all redeemable.
    Have a blessed day gal.

It's a comfort to me, too! I always remember that my grandmother prayed for my mom to return to the Lord and never knew she did until after she passed. Of course, in heaven, she knew!

The story of Lot concerns me, too, because the Moabites and the Ammonites became enemies of Israel. Still, Jesus chose Ruth the Moabitess to be in His lineage!

I guess it shows that God is no respecter of persons, that all who choose Him are welcome, which of course is great news for all of us. As you recall, Ruth chose to go with Naomi. There was quite a cast of characters in the bloodline. Even King David, a man after God's own heart committed adultery with Bahsheba and had Uriah her husband killed. On the one hand it's reassuring that no one is going to stop God's plans.

I am not sure I could ignore a crime against an innocent person and I would probably get myself into trouble. I once worked with a middle aged woman who was only 5" tall and a Secretary. She was kind and considerate but did not stand out, just another employee where I worked. She told me about an incident at a bus stop when she was waiting for her bus with a young black boy aged about 15. The Police pulled up and asked the boy to empty his pockets. The middle aged woman stopped the Police in their tracks asking them for their names and taking their collar numbers. She said they were picking on this boy for no reason. They soon went on their way and the boy thanked her. She could quite easily have been arrested for interfering in Police business. I think we need to stand up sometimes and have our say and hope the risk is not too great and we lose our liberty or our life. A fine reference to the biblical story here Tom, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

    Hello Dolly,
Thanks so much for sharing this encouraging story. I know that you were a bobby, and I bet you were very good at the job. My son was a policeman in Ketchikan and now is the airport cop there. He has no desire to have a heavy hand with people, but has learned the art of conversation to diffuse a matter. In some cases though, you just have to act and let the chips fall where they may. I'm so glad to hear that you would stand up against injustice gal. We need more people like you in the world. Thanks for being you.
    Have a blessed day.

We're not close to becoming Sodom and Gomorrah. We passed them up long ago. Things are happening that have never been thought of before. It seems that Evil is walking the land these days. I once read a little grandmother told her grandson, "If things get much worse, God's gonna dig up Sodom and Gomorrah, and apologize." hahaha. Seriously, can it get much worse??? Yes, I will join in your prayer for this country and the whole world.

    Hello Yvonne,
Thanks so much for the exceptional rating and insightful comments. I never thought I would see a time when the United States of America, the place that used to be a beacon for the world, would be a place that I would be ashamed of. How can we ask our young men and women to fight for this country when the very things that we represent now are despicable? I know that I can be very critical of our politicians and I think that we need to use our rights to express our displeasure to them, but in the end, prayer is the only thing that will make a difference. We need leaders who will bend the knee to God and get their priorities right.

Tom,

What an uplifting post this is for a Sunday morning! Yes, we must let God know that there are many righteous among us that want nothing more than to live well under his guidance. I fear there has been so much misrepresentation of Him that people are rebelling against even the idea of Him. You did an excellent job of keeping your writing tight and to the point. Excellent!

    Hello Sue,
Thanks so much for the exceptional review and your very encouraging comments. You know that I like humor, and I think it's important to be able to laugh if you can. I was actually planning on doing a post about Sodom and Gommorah from the Book of Jasher to show illustrate how desperately wicked they were. It doesn't sound like anything funny, but there was one incident that showed how the law, when mis-applied can back fire. You're right, the Lord has been misrepresented, but it's up to each of us to discover who He is. If we were to make a large purchase like a home or a car or even a TV, I suppose most people would study about the product before buying. How much more important is it if we are speaking of our soul and eternal destiny? If you're in the water drowning, and someone comes along and throws you a life ring, it's up to you to grab it. It's the difference between life and death. I was wondering about the use of singular or plural. They are almost always used together. Thanks.
    Have a blessed day gal.

You present a valid argument, Terry. The times we live in today
are filled with so much hate, destruction, sin, and everything else
that I believe God abhors. What will He do? That is His will. But, I
do believe this: the world is so far removed from God, each person
must do what s/he needs to in order to get back on track before
it's too late. We (Americans) have removed God from our lives
(many have) in the pursuit of their own agendas. One day (sooner
than later probably) it will be too late to right all the wrongs.
Respectfully, Jan

    Hello Jan,
Thanks so much for the great review and thoughtful comments. There are several examples of what God has done in the past when mankind became so wicked that He could no longer tolerate the sin. In Noah's time He destroyed the entire earth by water. In the case of Sodom and Gomorrah, he used fire and brimstone. When the Israelites were traveling in the desert for forty years with Moses, they frequently made the Lord so mad that He told Moses to get out of the way, He was going to destroy them and raise up a new group of people for Moses. Because of the prayers of Moses, the people were spared, but usually not before some died of plague or snakebites or whatever. I believe in intercessory prayer, but in the end, we will all be responsible for our own actions. I appreciate your input gal.
    Have a blessed day.

I love your writing! I've read the story of Sodom and Gomorrah before. You have a gentle way of explaining the story and having your heart heard about your feelings on the way our world is and wanting us to join you in prayer for our country. Thank You for sharing this. God Bless and spare us for the sake of righteousness.

    Hello Lana,
Thanks so much for the wonderful review and heart-lifting comments. I'm honored by your kind words. As bad as things are right now, I think if we choose to honor the Lord, He will heal the land. We can't change the way people act, but we can set an example that is going to shine like a beacon in a dark place that will make them see that God is good and wants what is best for us all.
    Have a blessed day gal.

Amen. well written. Thoughtful. Hopefully, provoking but so many won't read it because we are not offering a buck in member cents. Giraffmang said as much, and he is an interesting person.

    Hello Tom,
Thanks so much for the great review and comments. I guess I never think in terms of how much an article is paying when I look at it. If it sounds interesting I read it. I guess I'm naive for thinking that others feel that way. I agree, Giraffmang is an interesting fellow.
