This is quite the amazing article, so many fascinating names and places in Indiana. I think most people are not aware of these names and places. The name of a town called 'Correct" is hilarious and I am sure many from Mass area aware of Lary Bird's hometown. Your article is perfect to promote tourism for Indiana, it should be in a tourism book or pamphet.

Thanks so much for your review and comments. I liked the name of "Correct." Some of those mentioned are really small towns. In Terre Haute, where I live, we used to have a Larry Bird's Boston Connection motel and restaurant. Sadly, they went out of business. judi

I'm enjoying these stories. They are fun and informative. Ex-Chicago Bears quarterback, Jay Cutler, came from Santa Claus. I wasn't much of a fan of his, he must have been the naughty child in the town. Another place in Indiana is Shipshawana. I probably spelled it wrong. That was a great day trip we took my friend visiting from Florida.

Thanks so much for your review and comments. I've never been to Santa Claus although I'm a native of Indiana. The spelling I see in the book is Shipshewana. The name means vision of a lion. Glad you enjoyed. I read one today about Canadian place names. judi

Thank you for sharing all these interesting stories of place names in Indiana. You did a lot of research for this. I wrote one, but wasn't sure how to get it into the book, I think I know now where I went wrong.

Thanks so much for your review and comments. I hope you were able to get it into the book. If you haven't done so yet, just look at the bottom of my chapter or any other previous chapter and click on Multi-author book. Then you'll be all set. judi

This was indeed very inspirational, entertaining and rather educational as well, Judiverse. I did not realize how many communities were named as such and I am sure your state is not alone. Very well done and greatly enjoyed.

You've presented us with a massive number of interesting names from your state, judi. I'm pretty sure we've driven through your city of Terre Haute more than once during our travels across the US. The story of how the town of Comet was mistakenly taken for Correct by the post office is hilarious. Thanks for sharing these.

Hello Judi,
What a hoot! I'm sending along my last six of the week. I'm so glad I had one left. I love to read facts like this. When I was doing research for my first book I found that the town where I lived for 45 years underwent a variety of names. It was established by the Tlingit Indians who were driven from their homes in Glacier Bay when the glaciers started moving down the bay and eradicated their village there. Over the years it was named Belltown, Gaud'ah'Kan, HoonahTown, Hooniah, Hoonyah, Huna, Kantukan and Koudekan. In 1901 the post office was established and it was declared Hoonah and has been ever since, although some of the more radical natives prefer the Huna spelling. We seldom understand just how interesting so many things are because we just take everything for granted. Thanks so much for sharing this. It was delightful.
Have a blessed day.
Tom

Hi, Tom, thanks so much for your review and the super sixer, too. Your town certainly went through a bunch of name changes. I don't think any of the Indiana cities I read about went through that many name changes! judi

This was very interesting, Judi. I was born and raised in Illinois and I had a son-in-law who was from Indiana. He is
Deceased now but truly loved. You did a great job telling us about the names of the cities. Well done. Nancy:)

Thanks for your review and comments. Where I live in Indiana, we are close to the towns of Marshall and Robinson in Illinois. Illinois must have some interesting place names, too. judi

Probably. I have been a Nevadan for sixty years now. I bet Nevada has a few dillies. Very few. LOL When we moved to Ely it had 7000 residents in White Pine County.

Thank you for sharing this post with us. I enjoyed reading. I find names of places interesting. Here in Texas we have very interesting names, usually from Mexico, the early settlers, and the Native Americans, sorry Indigenous People.

When It comes to fascinating place names, (lower case 'i' needed on 'it')

Thanks so much for your review and comments. My husband and I lived in Mesquite when we were in Texas. We didn't travel much while we were there, but I can imagine there are plenty of interesting place names in the state. judi

I did not know that there was Russellville or Santa Claus, Indiana. I knew about Terre Haute. And Larry Bird being from French Lick. There are Amish people in Indiana. The State takes 7 hours to go through getting to Alabama from Kalamazoo, Michigan. Thank you for sharing.

Hi, Carolyn. I appreciate you so much for stopping by to read and review this. Thank you for your comments. I grew up in Parke County, Indiana, and many Amish have settled there in the past 30 years. Have a great weekend. judi

Yay! So glad you added a chapter!

Yikes, you didn't even have to cross state lines to find some very interesting names!

(Hey, you liked "Hartford" so much you listed it twice!)--wink...

Love the story about the town "Correct." It is just so typical of bureaucracy!

"Dairy Queen" had me laughing out loud!

You do such fine research! My little chapter is all kinds of embarrassed now!

Fifty thousand stars!

(Um, I'll owe you a few)

Great job!

Karenina
