Thanks for standing up for victims of violence in your story, Tom. It's a scary thing but people are easily swayed by rhetoric and there has been much implied by certain public figures that China caused the pandemic and so a lot of anger is vented against American Asians. We had some awful things happen out here, too.

Hello Helen,
Thanks so much for the fine review and comments. I was listening to an Asian man last night on the news channel, and he thought that so much of the anger against Asians has to do with the fact that they come to this country poor, and move into low-income areas, but within a generation they have a successful business and a nice house. I believe that a lot of poverty happens because of the government programs. People with a good work ethic have a tendency to get ahead. Instead of following an example that works, some people have resorted to blame and the result is incidents like what have been occurring across the country.

Thank you for those comments. That idea of the "model minority" which has been popularized has backfired on Asians as in the LA Riots when the Korean businesses were attacked. Also, not all Asians cross the board have overcome poverty. But there was a lot of resentment towards Asians when they were held up as models to emulate. The same thing happens even when a child is praised in school in contrast to the other kids.

I can understand how that would grate on a person. I just wish that we could learn to overcome our differences and get along as citizens. Maybe I'm asking for too much.

I could not watch that and not get involved. I've been on so many scrapes for other people with bullies. I've been lucky not to get hurt. Targeting anyone doesn't make sense to me, and I've never wanted to hurt anyone. That's a lot of hatred in those hearts.

thanks so much for the great review and the suggestion. I read the rules regarding the contest, and even though it is a fifty word flash, the rules state between 48 and 52 words, so I fudged it a little. I appreciate your taking the time to re-work this. It reads very well, but it wouldn't be my work if I used it. Thanks so much though.

Oh, not at all. I'm not trying to insult you, if I did, I'm sorry. I really liked what you wrote, actually better than the original, but it wouldn't be my work then and it is for a contest. It's amazing how commonly we see stories of people terrorised on public transport by idiots with nothing better to do. I like that you introduce the peril then imply the resolution with the last line. Very nicely written.

Hello Mike,
Thanks so much for the great review and comments. I've read that even a rolled up newspaper can be used as a weapon if you're attacked. Isn't it awful though that an innocent person can't even walk down the street or ride the subway without being terrorized by thugs? It might be time for citizens to band together and make sure that no one is alone when the go out. The creeps seem to target individuals who are by themselves.

I fear that it's just another example of a society that has invited God to take a back seat. America is being led by people who have no moral compass and we're seeing the results of that every day.
