Congratulations on your second-place finish in the ode contest. You certainly do your city of residence justice. From your description it sounds lovely, with the ocean at hand and the calm harmony sounds like a welcome relief. In the U.S. people cannot enjoy that feeling of safety you do. There has been so much crime reported recently. You're fortunate to live in a place that is so satisfying to you. I wish I were younger so I could visit some of those places. judi

I am curious to know what's your city, and if that picture is from there I truly understand your praise. Thank you for sharing and good luck with the contest.

The city is Dunedin in New Zealand. The photo shows the harbour, the peninsula, and some of the city and beaches.

It sounds like a beautiful place to dwell as portrayed in these stanzas offering a warm welcome and diverse landscape together with exotic wild life - a joy to read -a sense of tranquility pervades the poem

Thanks so much for this wonderful review. Your comments show that you understood the tone of my poem. Living here does carry tranquility - a relatively small city (128,000 residents) in a lovely setting.

This could be anywhere in the world, but I first thought of Australia, but it could be the cook islands, anyway you describe a wonderful place that I would love to visit, good luck with the contest, love Dolly x

No, definitely not Cook Islands - I don't think they have cold days there. You are getting close, thinking it is Australia, but not.

Hello Author,
Well done on your poem. I would venture to say that perhaps you are somewhere in New Zealand, but I don't know. The harbor looks well protected, but appears to be somewhat hazardous with a lot of shallows, though it's hard to tell from the picture. Good luck in the contest.
Have a blessed evening.

You guessed right. You can see the harbour channel to the left - it is kept dredged for shipping, but there is a port closer to the harbour entrance for larger ships. I went sailing on the harbour years ago in a hired yacht with a group of friends. We didn't really know how to read the depth chart so we ran aground with the centreboard down... but we just stepped overboard, pushed the yacht into deeper water and got on board again.

Wow, you're fortunate. It could have caused some real damage to the keel. Years ago there wasn't any GPS to help guide us, but fathometers have been around for a long time. Like everything, running a boat can be a learning experience. Good luck.
    Blessings

Luckily we weren't going very fast. In fact there was hardly any wind and it was boring rather than fun.
I do enjoy sailing - once I was a deckhand on an ocean-going yacht on Sydney Harbour - that gave me a tiny taste of what it might be like on the Sydney to Hobart yacht race - I think I might be terrified most of the time!

Well I can certainly see why this place is so dear to you. It is beautiful, as is your poem. What a magical paradise that must feel like a little bit of pre-Heaven.
You did a great job and I would have imagined this even without the picture as your description was spot on!

Thank you - it is indeed a lovely place to live; not without its problems of course with 128,000 people to keep happy, but we get along mostly enjoying each other.

Yes, I've worked it out - and you are excellent at marketing! It sounds perfect, and your ode is a well-written tribute to a country and city which has adopted you with open arms. Best wishes for this excellent entry in the contest!

    Thanks for your lovely comments.
It's not a perfect place to live, but it is perfectly adequate and lovely, and I am happy here
