How true it is that harbouring grudges is like encircling oneself with a chain. Forgiveness sets us free. The teaching of Jesus Christ makes a point of this. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you so very much for your kind words. This was like a personal conference of the devil on one shoulder arguing with the Angel on the other. However knowing that there is only one truth, is why I'm working towards making that the winning side. Thanks again my friend for the very kind review and words!

Forgiveness is about walking a few steps in the other person's shoes and feeling their pain. Hurt people hurt people Strange as it seems, I believe we all do our best, even when things appear to the contrary. Not being able to forgive is like taking rat poison oneself and expecting the rat to die. Forgiveness, like happiness, is an inside job, We don't need apologies - we need insight and understanding. We can find comfort and identity in being and remaining in a state of victim-hood.
Forgiveness is a gift for all but most of all for the person who finds it in their heart to to activate this gift.

With that knowledge, it is giving me comfort in writing about it.
I've never known unforgivable feelings before so knowing what
I need to do and doing it are coming closer together. Comforting and encouraging words such as yours help the process.. Thank you my friend for your kindness!

"Rabbi, how many times should I forgive, seven?" "No, said Jesus, seventy seven times seven." It is hard to forgive sometimes when someone has hurt you. If you can't bring yourself to forgive, pray for the person that caused you pain.

Aussie, I truly am working on it, as I know there must be forgiveness to be forgiven. Thank you for your very kind review my friend.

It should come naturally. Rules sometimes were made by religion. I'm sure god knows you care. We can't always forgive if that person rejects us.

You are right. "Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us", says the Lord's Prayer. It is one of the hardest things, but with His help and grace it is possible. He does see the heart and sees the willingness to forgive, and it is often an ongoing process, I have found. best wishes for your entry.

I think forgiveness is a process, as far as we're concerned, probably the hardest thing is to forgive oneself, and then to forgive others, but we keep at it, the removal of the memory is tough, we need God's, He's always helped me with the process. Beautifully written in rhyming couplets, well done, blessings Roy

You did a great job with your contest entry, Mystery Author.
Your words were meaningful and addressed a huge problem
many face. Forgiveness is a touchy topic. Your words expressed
it perfectly. Each individual must consider how they feel and
what they have to do to make it so. There's nothing much
worse than one saying I forgive you and not mean it.
Your couplet s read well and created great imagery. You
gave readers great advice without being preachy.
Best wishes, Jan

A timely poem in these days of grief and loss. Your poem tackles one of the hardest things for us to get our heads around - forgiveness of evil deeds. Your words explain your personal struggle and understanding of why we must embrace this concept. Your final rhyming couplet sums it all up.

I've always been a forgiving person too, but it seems there are people capable of more and more horrendous crimes that push our boundaries of forgiveness. Of course, forgiveness shouldn't have boundaries, and maybe that is the lesson.

This poem of couplets is excellent in every respect--thoughtful, sincere,
descriptive, and Bible-based. Forgiveness is not always easy--giving it or asking for it. Yes, we have to do it, not just say it.

"So Lord I ask forgiveness, as this time I'm not forgiving"
Sometimes we ask for that which we can not give, but each day as a Christian means that you get up and try to be the best you can be that day. We are human - it's hard.

This is a lovely, passionate poem from the heart. I wish you luck in the contest.

This work has reached the exceptional level

Now this is a lovely poem its also true. If we cant forgive how do we expect God to forgive us. We have to and will if we know Jesus. There will never be any real peace because God is all love and forgiving. Good work.

Thank you so very much Eunice for the very generous six stars and such a lovely review and kind words. It isn't very often I struggle with the flesh and the pride of what it involves. So I knew by writing about it would be helpful and your encouraging words are indeed a message from God at this very moment. Thank you so very much for your lovely words of encouragement as it is more appreciated than I can tell you!

It always makes me happy to help someone. Pray for my son he and his sister isnt talking but she did do him bad. She put him out in 30 below zero to sleep in a cold car. I understand why hes made but we have to ask God to help us firgive. He did us. If someone had of took my sinless son and did to Him like they did Jesus. Ut would be hard but l had to try to forgive my daughter only because of Jesus. I hope you are ging well never forget no matter how much it hurt you have to forgive. Because that hurt me awful. It still trys to haunt me but l let it go. Hope he forgives her. What a testomony she would had shown. Shes very stubborn.
