This is an intriguing account of people and relationships. I thought I might find it rather dull but your research has unearthed interesting little details that you include, such as paying the indians, and explanation of what a normal school is and women's education.
My husband was from a farming family and his mother suggested he learn a profession so he went into engineering, just like happened in your family account.

Thank you LisaMay. I so glad you found things of interest to make it seem less boring. I was afraid people would be boring too since it was all about people in my own family line. Your words are encouraging.

You did a great job, Beth, with this part of your family
history. I enjoyed reading it. Your research was thorough,
the facts were great, and the info was interesting to
read and think about. Your husband's side of the family
had a proud tradition of military service. Yes, I believe
your children will find this beneficial in several ways.
I hope they appreciate the dedication you put into
writing these accounts. It's part of their history, too.
I laughed about the old man with the same name.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

My grandma, on my mom's side, was a Jones, before marrying my grandpa. She was born in Wales and Tom Jones is a very distant cousin of hers. It's a small world. Thank you for sharing.

It is amazing who you might discover you are related two when you trace your like. In the Lay line I learned we are related to the guy who started Lay's Potato Chips as well as the one who got in trouble with Enron and is serving time. I have a Walton line that ties into the Sam Walton of WalMart. You don't learn these thing until you look.

Thanks for sharing another really interesting chapter, Beth. There sure were a lot of Evan's in your tree! It must have been hard to sort them all out. lol

I was really impressed with this statement: "Evan Shelby believed the land actually belonged to the Indians, and he insisted on paying them..." You had to know they were good people.

Excellent research and writing. I wish I had another six for you.

I was so glad that you supplied the information about Carrol Shelby, as I started wondering if it might be a possibility soon as I read the name. Thanks for sharing another fine chapter.

Thank you so much for another review. I name a daughter Carol Shelby and she got asked that a lot if we were related. I hadn't heard of him at the time I named her. His name is spelled with two rr ant two lls.

I've seen his name and read about him, but never paid attention to how his name was spelled. I just once owned a Shelby Mustang. Wish I still had it. LOL.

More interesting facts about the family in which you married. I'm interested in and look forward to hearing more. This is the sort of thing that children and grandchildren will one day treasure. ann

Thank you for sharing about Evan's side and his ancestry. I didn't know the Welsh meaning of Evan. In Hebrew it means "stone." The "stone of help" is badly rendered into English as Ebenezer but it's 'evan-ezer.'
Loved that his ancestor paid the Indians for the land. That's so good to hear!

Thanks for the review. I guess it depends where you look for name meanings. It is an Anglicized form of John. It also means. The Lord is gracious. My grandpa name was Ebenezer which I was always told meant cross. There is an old hymn we used to sing that had the 'when I raise my ebenezer" which in the song meant cross.

Hey Beth, still involved in my marathon travels through Oregon and Washington, but, once again, I wanted to be sure and support your fine writing with a review. I love that you are memorializing your family's past.
