Oh, yes, that poem did make me smile. It must have been a schoolboy crush on the teacher. Your father would have done well with flash fiction with his ability to give a great punch line. It is so helpful to have this kind of diversion after all the sadness and tragedy we've been experiencing. A lesson for us all here--hang on to that writing! I'm glad ou kept your father's. judi

Thank you. I was having a really bad night and, on top of the news out of Uvalde and Buffalo before that, I truly needed a smile. This adorable poem definitely gave me one. I didn't quite know what to expect, as your father's poem started out as a beautifully written tale of unrequited love. The twist at the end caught me totally off guard, making it that much more enjoyable and smile-inducing. Thanks so much for lightening my mood.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! This is a generous gift putting this up here so we may take a moment to smile... (and maybe also cry). Eight... an age of sweetness and newness. Did you ever know... was she his teacher? Someone real? Thanks again!

This is a lovely little poem, powerful and touching- I enjoyed reading it. I particularly enjoyed the feeling you managed to build into it, it's very moving and melancholic. Thanks for sharing this and have a great day

Nice piece, Terry, and a nice poem by your father - great ending. You are right about the world being sad. Maybe if we write enough upbeat poems, things might be a little better.

Hello Terry, Mission accomplished. You made me smile. I loved your poem. Little boys fall in love a lot...to be honest, so do grown men - lol.
I especially liked:
For after
All I was eight. And she was
Married to Jim.
(Let's hear it for Red headed girls!)
Well done. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer

This is an excellent poem. I wasn't expecting that ending, however it brought a snicker from me. You kept my attention throughout. Short but sweet. Very good work.

A wonderful poem from your dad that I have no doubt brings a smile to anyone who reads it.
In releasing your dad's poem you did find a way to find something insightful in these troubled times.
I will give you and your dad six stars.
Best regards
Mary

You won on this one, even on a bad day, this poem would turn a frown upside down. Your dad did a good job, and it was nice of you to share with us.
