I love everything about this poem, starting with the chalk drawing on a blackboard.

The simple facts are it was nice when everything seemed simple and right in its place, particularly when one in six.

Perfect metre and rhyme and a fine poem for children of all ages.

You should have entered this into the Children's poem contest! This is adorable! It shows exactly how children draw (maybe not actually perceive) but you described the childlike generalizations which help them make sense of the overwhelming world.

Hi Helen :) Thank you so much for your feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed the read. I came across the picture and it struck me that every house, every tree and every flower I ever drew when I was small looked just like the ones in the picture - it could have been one of my own pictures from years gone by. The pictures the kids in my class draw are very much the same too... our vision of the world at that age is so simple.

I love your cute poem. It was fun to read and had an excellent story about a six year old's art work. You did a good job. I didn't see any errors. Have a good evening. Shirley

I have been missing a simpler time. After spending a week at the shore with my grandchildren, life has slowed and simplified. I think I'm going to rest here awhile. Sending you my best for this delightful poem,

Very nice, Debra. Whimsical! A bit of nonsense thrown in.
Life was definitely easier when we were young... no debt, no bills, no clock to punch. There was a brook out in the woods to fish. And we could play Hide n' Seek or Frozen Tag. And then there was fairy time. We'd watch for them... pixies. But all we'd see were fireflies. And we'd catch them in a bottle. Oh, I didn't have to comb my hair! I hadn't discovered that girls were different yet.
My favorite lines,
"The butterflies' antennas were
as large as lollipops"
and,
"The people all had bobbleheads
with arms and legs like sticks
and ev'rything made perfect sense
when I was only six."

Nicely penned!
Hugs,
Kimbob

Thanks for sharing some of your boyhood memories with me - it sounds like you had the best time! I'm thinking that 'Frozen Tag' is what we call 'Tiggy Statue' over here LOL. I spent most of my time outdoors too....still do if I can!
Have a great day! Debs x

I could picture the drawings of a six-year-old when I was reading your poem. Everything did seem simpler then, and, yes, it made perfect sense. Thanks for sharing!

Debra,

I like this so much! And ain't it the truth! My little grands are in such a hurry to grow up - hmmmm - never saw that before, right? When we all know there's nothing waiting there but hard work and trouble. hahaha The days you describe are magical! Loved it!
