I read the title and smiled. How, I wondered, would you make THIS creature endearing...
Oh, me of little faith, I had my doubts!
Kudos to you poetess!
We must beware of our knee jerk decisions!
Very wise...

Cuddly rat? I think if I was feeling that alone, maybe!
:)
Comment from Mary Vigasin
There is something very haunting about this how someone is so lonely that once she shoos a rat away, the night is lonely and cold without the sound of the rodent.
Very well-written.
Best wishes,
Mary

Another fine poem, Gypsy....and you'd have to be lonely indeed to crave the company knawing rodent, a harbinger of deadly doom*, or a rat!
*an ex, perhaps?

Oh my gosh! This is great! My first thought was an old poem by a woman in prison who grieved when the cockroach in her bread was gone. But this has all that impact plus the question of metaphor. Who is this rat?

It's just a rat, a strange companion but if you get lonely enough it may seem like a friend. It can mean different things to different people...it's the beauty of haiku.
Thank you very much, my friend. I appreciate that you took the time to read and review my poem.

Aha! That's fun to know! Thanks!

I like how the narrator's loneliness is described in terms of even regretting shooing a rat away. Even the rat's company wasn't desirable, it was still another living thing.

Yes, you got it....not everyone does. I watch a movie about prisoners. One had a little mouse pet that he loved so much. One of the prisonguards killed it...so sad.
Thank you very much, Helen ♡

I like your poem- interesting topic- how sad that would be in deed!! If the only other living thing in your life was a dangerous rat that you had to shoo away- leaving completely alone.
Heavy- Good job

This is a very interesting and well written 6/5/6 Modern Haiku. You used very good descriptive words and very good imagery from the art work you chose. Great job as always my friend! love and blessings, teri

Hello, Gypsy!
What a creative image you have created with your modern 6/5/6 haiku. About an hour ago, I was putting clothes away in my bedroom, lifted up a jacket, and came face-to-face with a wolf spider! Goodness! I am not certain if I will feel lonely tonight; I tried to save him, but I lost him in transit to the porch! Yikes!
One small edit:
after shooing the rat away; (,)
Thank you for sharing!

I never heard of wolf spiders..it sounds super scary. I Google it. It looks like it has a face...weird. I would hate to find one in my house..you are very brave.
Thank you for the edit... it's good now.
