I truly enjoyed how you showed the Korea that existed when you first went there to the modern Korea of today.
Very interesting and well-written comparisons show that Korean culture still survives.
As to unification, I fear the North has been so indoctrinated that any chance of them becoming more Westernized is unlikely.

Mary, thanks for the comments as always. I believe Korea will unify within my life time. since I am 66 hopefully within the the next ten years.

Very nice writing. . .interesting. I visited Soul in 1987 for a week. Stayed in a very nice hotel and had 4 pair of eel skin shoes made. Loved those shoes, all 4 pair. :) The cars on the road were fast, I really would never step off the sidewalk for fear of being ran over. First time to taste an Asian pear. Very nice. I don't really know anything about when the south and north were one and now. . . yikes. Could be another Ukraine and Russia?

Korea was unified from about 600 AD to 1905 when it became a Japanese colony. Divided up at the end of world war 11 and divided into hostile countries ever since. Unification remains a distant dream but probably will happen someday.

yeah Korea has its charms. Miss living in America, might return but given the anti-Asian violence now and the rising gun violence, it is pretty dangerous place not to mention the lack of public transit. Oh well will probably move back some day.
