That's such a lovely story about the green shirt. I'm blind, so having never seen the colour of people's skin, it never made a difference to me. For a few years, I was at a school for the blind with children of lots of nationalities. There were people there who were racist, but I've never understood treating people differently on the basis of how they look.
If you keep telling that green-shirt story, I expect your grandchildren will remember and repeat it themselves when they're older. My nan was a great storyteller and I miss that.

i am so pleased the post hit a place of honesty in your reading. I admire the courage and the beauty of blended families and do my best in everyday dealings with people to provide a non-bias, non-racial approach to life. I do my best to provide a proper role model for my children, my grandchildren and anyone else that may notice.
I'm not bragging about that -- it is not a 'chore' I do. It is living life with a sense of equality and fairness for all of my fellow humans. It's just natural.
thank you for reading and commenting. I cannot truly understand the challenges of a blended family, but I can and do admire the courage and love required to make it a success.

Know what? We don't see it as a challenge, but as a series of "teachable moments." I pride myself in truly conveying to my children at a young age that we are all different and all the same ~ and so it came as no surprise when my son fell in love with a beautiful black woman who is like a daughter to me. I think we are the change we are hoping for! (smile)

What a revelation. That is the epitome of innocence. Fortunately, no one has gotten inside that child's mind with tales and fables of Critical Race Theory or anything. He simply looks at a kid as a kid. He sounds like a wonderful grandchild. If only all of us adults could foster a similar attitude.
