This is an amusing story, which has a sense and is well-written. People who fish will appreciate this anecdote. The picture is a great addition to your story :)

Good story! You did a lot considering the restraints of this contest. It left me wanting more, and that's not a bad thing. The story had to be well thought out to get the character, setting, conflict and resolution in 100 words. You achieved that. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you, it did get second in the contest, FanStory never announced the results, I am thinking the picture had a lot to do with it. LOL, Terry.

Hello Terry, very good, very cute. John might have to feed his buddies a few beers to get them to believe this one. Maybe he had a few too many as well...just a thought. Note to all fishermen: take drawing paper and pencil(s) with you on all fishing trips 'cause you never know that you might catch or need to record ... lions, and tigers, and Bears,
Oh my. A fun story that illustrates the best of a Man's thinking. Great story. It made me smile, and we all need to smile more often. As this is a contest entry, I wish you good luck. LateBloomer

My apologies. I didn't realize that the contest was over. A great, creative story. LB

No apologies are necessary. It was a blind contest, and FanStory did not announce who won. That is why I promoted the story, I thought it was fun and a few folks might enjoy it, thanks. Terry.

The objective correlative of your work reminisces the protagonist's dilemma of having to convince his friends that he actually caught an extraordinarily large fish.

The work highlights his catching of the big fish; his predicament of proving to his absentee friends that he actually caught a fish of that magnitude; and how he resorted to drawing the fish as an alternative option to convince them.

The work earns its texture through its effective use of anecdotes synonymous with convincing people.

Excellent work. Bravo.

OMGoodness. . .too funny. Great drawing of. . .something but certainly not a fish, similar. No nickels for close. :0))) Fun story to read. I"m sure this is true for so many fishermen. Best of luck in the contest. :)

This is very amusing. Of course they are going to believe him and see exactly what he caught. Wishing you the best of luck in the 100 word dash writing contest.

Absolutely. Sure he caught a fish, or was it a ithysaurus? T-rex? or Loch Ness. He may be a great fisherman but DeGas, Rembrandt, he isn't. Maybe Pablo Picasso. Did he fish?

This fish tale was incredibly cute and funny. I love the picture you supplied to go with the story. I'm sure I would believe John . . . or not. Thanks for sharing!

I understand how difficult writing with 100 words or less is but this fizzled out in the last 3 lines for me. I could not see the relevance of the buddies on the other side of the lake or why people would believe him. Maybe I'm missing something like humorous intent here?

He cannot take the fish to show his buddies, because they are on the other side of the lake and the fish will die before he gets there, and the fish is out of season so he must release it (double conflict). So, he draws a picture to document his catch. It is a stupid picture, no one will believe him...it is a big fish that got away story, no one believes. The humor is in his feeble attempt to document his big fish.

If you will go read J. P. Olesen's story, The Trophy, a great story that placed third in the nonfiction contest, the fish story will make more sense. That is why in the notes, I said with apologies to J. P.
