The poem was a great poem. My heart fell when I got to the word sharp kitchen knife. Those kitchen knives bring back terrible memories for me. I am afraid of butcher knives. I use small sharp steak knives. I was glad it was used for chicken. Thank you for the awareness. This would be a horrible way to kill someone, but it has happened. Please do not feel bad about the way this made me feel. My memories go back to 1959.

Oh! What a grewsome thought, even though it's a bit humorous. Continuous physical abuse ultimately distorts a person's thinking. Both children and adults begin imagining ways to end their suffering. Thank you for drawing attention to mental health concerns as a result of abuse.

It is so unfortunate that some abuse stories have terribly sad endings. I can't seem to help myself for introducing humour; I hope it doesn't offend anyone - I do take abuse seriously.

Hello LisaMay, a poem of truth. There was recently a report by ??? that said ... children that have been exposed to domestic abuse can develop physcological disorders, e.g. schizophrenia. You poem reads and flows well and your message is clear. Of special note:

You think ev'rything is my fault
(Many time abusers have low self-esteem, they are low-achievers for one reason or another, and they take their anger and frustration out on the one(s) closest to them. It's a vicious cycle. Chances are they suffered some type of abuse or neglect as a child themselves.)

Thank you for your author's notes. I like how you suggested a food bank, but think about the abuser when he comes homes and realizes that the food came from a food bank...Explosion erupts. Anger strikes.
Enraged at wife (or husband) and now the shouting and fists/blows begin. I believe this is One reason why the women today work...they never want to be in their mother's shoes. Never want to have to ask or beg for money, never able to make the financial choices--the lucky ones can suggest, but for woman of yesteryear, their voice meant little because they are not income earners. They were basically their husband's property. In these abusive situation, the woman and children must somehow leave/escape and escape discreetly...perhaps with only the clothese on their backs...which means that they need someone to help, house, and feed them for a while. The solution is not easy, but the life they are leading must change.

When I started to read the poem, I was going to say that I'm coming for dinner, but after reading your poem, I think I'll pass.

Well done. Thank you for participating in the wareness.

OMG - this poem really woke me up (it's early in the morning). From the image you chose, I thought this was going to go in a completely different direction.

It's just horrible how many women are in abusive relationships. I think you did a good job capturing this plight and expressing how a woman can be driven to murder. Best regards, Lilly

Dark humor with clever word-play about chicken as showing clipped wings, eggs in a basket, children squawking, being in a flap, headless chicken, hatching a plan, and finally chicken BBQ. It draws attention to a serious issue - domestic abuse. Abusers often project their own failings on others.
As to drawing attention to this problem, I think you give a powerful message that years of abuse can suddenly explode if not addressed sooner.
Best wishes,
Mary

Domestic abuse can result in murder on occasions as people get so angry that they kill their spouse. It is so scary our angry some people become as they blame their own bad behaviour on others. A well rhymes and poignant clever write Lisa, a chilling poem indeed, love Dolly x

This is both thought-provoking and clever. It's well-written, and adds dark humour to a serious subject. Domestic abuse is never acceptable (and neither of course is murder). You linked the serious aspects with witty use of word-play about eating"chicken", children squawking, eggs, clipped wings, being in a flap, headless chicken, hatching a plan. I like it a lot because of this effective combination.

I suggest that murder, far from being the solution to physical abuse is actually the ultimate form of that abuse.

Whether it be committed by thevboriginal abuser or the original victim makes little if any difference.

There is not much more to be said having said that.

I'll assume that you are only being humorous. But there are stories about some awful things that did happen or are implied as having happened. I liked how the chicken references kept growing over the course of the poem!

LM,

Yeah. I'm good with that. *smile* Serve him up, sister. He deserves it, I think. I don't really have a problem with chopping up those guys who take small, insecure women apart day by day. Especially when it's mostly hyperbole and pretend. Sometimes THEY need to run scared. I like those images a LOT. Thanks!
