I was going back to catch up on posts that I have missed, and I was delighted to find this one. Reading the title, I thought, what a great way to start my day--Strategies for Wellbeing. I even enjoyed your definition of wellbeing. I realized that I am not that well.
I do try though. I'm proactive and practice all of your suggestions. And, I enjoy FanStory and friends like you. That helps as much as anything.
Thanks for doing this one.

Like your story. Very good advice, too. Getting help, having caring friends that do understand how you feel, and not committing any serious situations can help much.
It has been such a trying time as my son and wife's family is going through a trying time. When you lose a loved one in the family, it is not easy. To give them space and time to mourn is a must. I feel so sad for them.

I send you a caring hug as you endure this sad time in your family.

It sure looked like more than 300 words, but it was actually less than, and you were still able to get a very pertinent message across. One observation.
1st Para: "realised" should be "realized"
I especially liked the last line: "You are not alone in your problems, unless you want to be."
Good job

Thanks for your review. Getting stories written within word limits is a great exercise in editing.
A point to note: I think you should realise that not all writers use American spelling. FS is an international site. I live in New Zealand and here it would be incorrect to spell 'realise' as 'realize'. We spell other words differently to American spelling too, such as 'travelling' instead of 'traveling' and many more. We resist becoming 'Americanised' or 'normalised' haha.... British English spelling varies from American English. I am Australian and we spell like New Zealand and Britain.
-
Lol, of course. You are so right. I depend a lot on my Microsoft spell checker. I need to tweak that habit, I guess. Thanks for pointing that out.
Yes, continue to resist. Keep that which is yours. I am American but the American way can be overpowering at times. Sorry for not "realising" that important fact.
-
Thanks for your response. I hate spellchecker. I tried to write a poem once with deliberate misspellings and my new computer kept changing my words to be 'correct' all by itself; I didn't know how to turn the function off and had to keep changing the words back again.

This story, Strategies for Wellbeing, gives these invaluable helpful ideas to assist us with dealing with life and all the factors that may otherwise work against us. Neat.

I didn't know these 5 items had been decided on as a wellbeing 'self help kit', but was pleased to discover I do them anyway as part of my normal living. I think I am mentally stable - though others may tell you otherwise, haha.

Thank you for your research, suggestions for wellbeing, and contribution to Mental Health Awareness Week. We've all experienced times in our life when one or all of your listed strategies would serve to keep us focused. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Keeping focused on something apart from ourselves does seem to be the best way to facilitate wellbeing.

This was very informative, and a lot of the topics mentioned can certainly explain and give clarity to someone looking for help. Medication is required for some that need it, and professional therapy.

Really important information here. My favorite tip is the one to give and volunteer. I think that's a lasting kind of joy that we can achieve. I think this will do well in the contest!

You have done a good job of explaining clearly and consisely what wellbeing is and the five steps to get there. If you could add the different national helpline phone numbers in your notes this would be an extremely useful post for people feeling overwhelmed.

Which national helpline phone numbers do you suggest I put in the notes? Readers are probably from all over the world.
-
USA - Australia - UK -plus your own country. That covers most readers I think (often I just put USA even though I'm UK)
-
I tried to find phone numbers but there are so many different ones for different agencies. I don't know enough about mental health issues to know what to prioritise.
-
prioritize if you feel suicidal thoughts, phone... anything less than that people with serious issues are covered, and if they're just finding out they have problems your piece is an excellent one.

Thank you for a very important message, Lisa May. These are all very useful suggestions, but the one they leave out, which is very important, is pay attention to your own needs. Don't forget yourself (physically or emotionally) while looking out for others. This is thoughtful and thought-provoking, and I hope readers follow your, and the NEF's advice. Just one thing: I want to see where they say, "Stimulate your brain with engaging activities (such as FanStory)."

Thank you for your good wishes and positive response to my article.
I didn't know about this list of 5 activities until I read about it in the contest prompt. I was reassured to find I already do these things!
