Excellent poem that captures the path of Alzheimer's and the effect it has on a spouse. I work as a nurse with Alzheimer patients, so I can relate to your words. You have a smooth flow of rhyming words that adds to the strength of your theme.

A simple but well-done poem about the spiral of slow separation and death from an insidious disease that we still don't know enough about. Your poem shows the grace that makes you a special person. Exceptional work. Terry.

Although about a sad subject, I enjoyed this poem because it speaks on unconditional love. One can only hope when our minds are foggy with only memories of bygone days someone will still love us in the now and into the forever. It's a good piece of writing. My only wish is that it was longer and expressed the other challenges of dealing with an Alzheimer loved one.

I could have made it longer, but I am at heart a minimalist, who fears that by saying too much, I might say too much.

I understand. However, it is multi-layered illness, and the care is also. Good poem. Please click on my profile and check out some of my poems and give me a review if you like,

I have a dear friend who is going through this as her husband sinks more into dementia. The title is very apt for this sad topic and an emotional write. Lovely presentation, Cheers

Hello Nomi, your poem is heartfelt and beautifully written, albeit sad.

Of special note:
When you have drawn your last breath
Part of me will die.

(This is so true)

A poem from the heart. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer

Beautiful commitment of love and friendship and loyalty. I was amazed to read this as I just yesterday posted one also about dementia/ Alzheimers for the five line contest. Perhaps the theme of mental awareness week has brought out these thoughts. Many fear the disintegration of their mental faculties even more than physical pain. Well written.

A very powerful writing on a dreadful disease which leaves the sufferer physically present their cognitive ability has been lost.
A moving and poignant work.
Best wishes

Short but very powerful. I could relate to this well as I've had family who wound up getting this disease. It truly is something horrible. Thank you for sharing!
