Alzheimer's is such a devastating disease. None of us wants "to go" before we go but if it happens we hope there will be someone there to see us to the end. This was a nice poetic treatment of that scenario!

My husband and I watched The Notebook but only once. Sadder than sad. We now have a friend who is in the beginning stages of this horrible disease and my heart breaks for them.
Thank you for sharing nomi.

Blessings
Janet

Thank you for your comments. I feel so much sorrow for anyone afflicted with this condition. It makes me value my current state of mind even more.

This is a sad poem and one close to my heart as my brother-in-law suffers from dementia. I thought it was well versed and smooth. I liked the tender tone. Thank you for sharing and take care.

Thank you. I have received an outpouring of support for the positive note of hope and caring by all the many families that have been affected in some way by this horrible disease.

Your poem is intense for its brevity, touching on the very real dread of losing our mind and dying alone. The promise of faithful friendship and compassionate caring is very reassuring. I know these feelings - I looked after my father for the last 8 years of his life as his health and memory failed with Alzheimers. He didn't know me for the last 3 years.

I was only able to visit my father just once near the end of his life, during my entire stay, he never woke just lay in bed snoring loudly. I hate that this was my last memory of him before he died.

It is a sad memory when you had such limited time. Try to change the memory by looking at photographs when he was more capable.

My brother, still not whole, so just looking in. I would love to have read a lot more of this. Great rhythm, and a good poetic voice. Hope to be back to strength soon.
My best.

Please take good care of yourself. You are a treasure that needs to be around for a very long time. You are already sorely missed.

While I DID love The Notebook, I'm sure I haven't watched it nearly as many times as you have! But it is an inspiring story. You've added to that inspiration with your poem. It struck me hard - even though we become strangers... Wow. THAT is commitment. Your wife is a lucky gal. :)
Blessings and thank you for sharing.

Thank you for a wonderful heartfelt review. My poem reflects my commitment to her should things devolve in that way.

That is a good one. I had the experience of watching my mother die of Alzheimer's. It was not fun. You have nailed four of the steps that will be encountered by someone standing by their loved one. The Notebook is one of my favorites, and I have watched it more than a few times.

Thank you. Sorry for the loss of your mom. I lost both my mother and father to this dreaded disease. My moms case was not nearly as severe as my dad's. Still they both meant the world to me and I miss them both terribly.

Hello Nomi338 a good day to you. I hope this finds you well. Though your poem was short and sweet, it sure said a lot and was very heartfelt. Great job and great message.
