I would think if a bunch of friends stay holed up all day to avoid the horrors of Friday the 13th it might be a good idea to go looking for brains. On the other hand, I was taken on ride in a tornado on Friday 13th and was inside the house with no cats or open flames. You can't outsmart bad luck.

This brought a big smile to my face. Love the wit of the opening two lines and the reveal ending. You even manage to get in references to most of the relevant superstitions without explicitly naming them. This is a fun take on the contest prompt.

HI Bill, I think you slept through Friday the 13th...LOL...
you brave souls...
my sister was born on Friday 13th...she got to where
she wouldn't go out on that day...but I must say...she had a reason...something bad truly did happen every time she went out...
my husband and I got her to go to a horse track...she said
at least 20 times she didn't want to go...I told her...what could happen???...so she decided to go...but she wouldn't place any bets...and I told her that was fine...well she saw the name of one horse called...GutterBall...so she put 2 dollars on him...the race was off...and GutterBall came flying around the corner...there was a lamp poll there...and the horse had his head turned in...sideways...and it hit the poll...and the horse went down...they had to take him out on a trailer...my sister was in shock...and she never went out again on her birthday...the good thing is...I sent her a news clipping where GutterBall had won two races in a roll...made her feel better...
things like that were always happening on her birthday...
I even started thinking she was jinxed...LOL...
I love your poem...very well written my sweet friend...

I've never suffered from triskaidekaphobia, fear of the number 13. In fact, the number 13 is my lucky number, and nice things usually happen for me on Friday the 13th. However, most of my family are very superstitious about it.

Hiding in the house in fear of a date on the calendar shows an absence of brains in the first place. Fear what is inside much more so than what is outside. On the outside there is room to run, inside there is very little room to maneuver.

Oops! I'd forgotten about Friday the 13th. Maybe that's what prevented me from having bad luck (so far, anyway.) Clever poem, and best of luck in the contest. It seems the boy's plan in your poem is to lay low on the 13th but come out on the 14th, looking for brains. That could be difficult these days, so good luck with that. judi
