Wow! Like being swatted with a wet mop of sudsy reality. What a heartbreaking story. Kimberly dying from an accident at a parade where he was supposed to be entertained and having fun. Then, the insensitive remark. A story of so few words that won't soon be forgotten. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the great review, Ric. I really appreciate the generous stars. I'm glad you liked the piece. Some of the events were slightly exaggerated though. Lol

I'm so sorry for your tragedy.
You write such an effective account of this incident: starting out light, mentioning a joyous celebration, then the tragedy). I was shocked and saddened, as was your purpose in writing.
Exceptional work, Lee.
Blessings, Cindy

Wow, thank you so much for the fantastic review and the big sixer, Cindy. I'll have to admit though, some of the events were slightly exaggerated. The 'family' aspect of the contest had to be true, is how I interpreted the rules. The rest was a bit off track from that. I dearly appreciate the generous stars, Cindy. Have yourself a wonderful day.

I'm sorry, but this can't be true. Otherwise, I'd feel horrible for laughing my ass off. It doesn't even meet the requirements for the TRUE Family writing contest. But I'm going to vote for it anyway because it was hilariously tragic.

Cheers.

Lol. Yeah, the only aspect of the contest that I interpreted needed to actually be true was the "Family" part of it. I'm glad you had a chuckle out of this ridiculous piece. That's all I was going for. I really appreciate the stars and support, Erika. Have a great rest of your weekend.

ds,

Never mind. After reading all the entries I'm just confused and bewildered. Sorry. Just sorry, sorry, sorry. I was trying to go by a set of rules that are..... Well. Anyway. Good luck to you! Go get 'em, Tiger!

Okay. I have to throw a flag. This sounded a little suspicious - so I did an internet search. There is nothing whatsoever on the web about this tragedy. You're calling this nonfiction - but the image looks photoshopped - I mean, if it were real - all those people in the foreground would not be looking so placid and calm, methinks.

Also, Kenny does not seem to be 'ascending into the sky' from this particular vantage point. So I'm not sure what it is that's hurling poor Kimberly into the air - unless it's a clever artist.

A link to a newspaper article would go a long way to making this a viable, realistic story. At the moment, cynic that I am, I am not buying it.

Of course, it is told really well. (We all know you are a super writer - that part is never in question. *smile* ) And the imagination required here is pretty stellar. BUT since the contest calls for 'True Family' stories and the requirements specifically say: "No vulgar words, profanity, sex,SATIRE or FARCE." And because you have labeled this yourself as 'nonfiction', I have to lower the rating. When you share the link to the articles showing this actually happened I will profusely apologize -- publicly if you like -- and re-rate, gladly.

Thanks.

Lol. The only aspect of this contest that I interpreted had to be real was the "Family" part. I'm sorry but if a certain someone can kill off all their friends and family members in "EVERY" true story contest, you can bet I've seen my share deaths along the way as well. Haha. Mine are slightly more outlandish but still...

Just wondering, do you go look up the authenticity of children snake bites, cougar attacks or other sad children deaths too? Haha I doubt they can be verified as well. Sorry I put you through all the hassle of trying to find it.

Oh, I did the picture myself. It's like 5 different pictures mixed together. I always have to have a pic that resembles what I'm explaining.

Thank you for the great review and stars, Robyn. Have a great rest of your weekend.

Are you serious? This is a true story? How horrible. I looked up, not knowing where Wapakoneta was, thinking Down Under, but Ohio? And North of Dayton? I thought "D" was a port on the lake.

Yep, Ohio. I had to put it under non-fiction because the rules required a "true" family. The events were slightly exaggerated. Lol
Thanks for the great review and stars, Tom.

Tragedies such as this still occur, we have had a couple of disasters recently involving 'Bouncy Castles' being blown away by freak gusts at outdoor events with fatal results. What raises the quality of this writing is the way you have tied it into the involvement of celluloid celebrities, and the attitude of the voice i the crowd.

I never though about that, bouncy castle deaths. Seeing as how killing off all you childhood friends can qualify as a "true' story every time, I think I recall a friend or two going out that way when I was a kid. Yeah, I remember now. Lol.

Thank you for the great review and stars, Pantygynt.

I guess if you say it's true, I'll believe you. This was a cheeky accounting of your sister's friend's death which hasn't seemed to have affected you at all. The photo-shopped picture adds to the satirical nature of the true tale.

That was a freak accident. You wrote a great story with lots of emotion and action. It's sad and wonderful at the same time. I never watched one episode of SouthPark. I couldn't stand it. Have a great Saturday, and good luck in the contest. Shirley

Thank you for the great review, Shirley. The way I interpreted the rules was that only the true part had to be the "family." The story was slightly embellished. I'm going to send you a thumbs up reviewer vote and give you a pump. I'm splitting my second place win with pumps to the other 3 entrants who clearly played by the rules. Have yourself a great rest of your weekend.

South Park is the best

2nd Para, first sentence: should be a comma after 'for'
3rd Para, last sentence: 'spiralled' should be 'spiraled' just one 'l'

Oh my God, how sad. Watching one of the characters she loved brought her demise. I can't imagine going through that.

Good story, sad event.

Very goopd story about a very traggic event.

Thank you for the great review and for finding the goofs, Gary. I fixed them. The events were slightly embellished. I interpreted the rules as the story only needed a true 'family."

Have a great rest of your weekend.

I quite enjoyed this. I used to watch South Park all the time with the kids back in the day when Kenny got killed in every episode, and his death was usually followed by Stan's cry of "Oh my God, they killed Kenny!"

Thank goodness I watch better things now like Ancient Aliens, and Love it, or List it.

Those big balloons do have a note of menace, especially on a very windy day.

Wishing you great luck in the contest with this true story. :)
