Sounds like she must have been a wonderful person. Your words remind me of my wife's grandmother, always giving and always loving. What happened? Are those type of people still around?

You nasty thing. I was tearing up halfway through this. I already had to spend some time staring at that wonderful image. The lady there looks so patient and kind. Those eyes. They stare right through the camera like they see your soul -- and love you. She also looks like she has lived a hard life and could share a thousand stories - if only.
The beginning of your book made me think so much of my own paternal grandmother - oh, my - and made me miss her. Actually, there's a tear running down my cheek as I type. I thought I had passed that point!
This piece was moving and special. The words were powerful and real. They were NOT purple and big and fancy. They did not need to be. Simple and honest and down-to-earth. Lovely. Great job. Good luck!

The fact that I could reduce the most gifted and prolific writer on this website to tears is simply astounding. My life is complete - I can die now. Who else but you could take "horrible" and "nasty' and turn them into the most endearing compliments?
Your description of my mother was so accurate that it's hard to believe you never met her. Your words were very touching and took me back to when I WAS that little boy. I sense she and your grandmother were of the same generation and shared similar qualities and values. How blessed and thankful we are to have had them in our lives.
I'm not one to write in "purple and big and fancy" terms. I'm glad you get it and that you can appreciate my simplicity and honesty. Thank you. Oh yeah, I really appreciate that sixth star!

This is such a nice letter. It is important for children to know about how we grew up, in my opinion. It gives them a sense of belonging, I think. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing. Take care.
