A poignant and well rhymed five liner for the contest and my heart goes out to all who are involved in this senseless war, and now Finland are worried about Russia. A fine write Paul, love Dolly x

Thanks, Christine. I'll bet Finland is not the only country that is worried.

This is an excellent poem and oh so true. I imagine many Russian soldiers will have PTSD over the killing and violence they were ordered to participate in. Your words have meaning and are relevant to today's world.

Thanks, Elaine. I think some of those soldiers will have many a sleepless night after this is all over.

I read something today that I pray isn't true. It was that the US government is working to extend this war so those in charge can continue to blame Putin for the problems we have going on in the US. If that's true, then we are really horrible. Thank you for sharing this contest entry with and good luck.

Thanks, Barb. I wouldn't put it past politicians to do something like you mentioned.

Well done for fitting this into the syllable count for the 5-line poem contest. I wonder how much access Russian soldiers have to the media outside their country. Would they realise Ukrainian people are trying to defend their homeland, or would they agree with their president's propaganda because they haven't heard the opposite point-of-view?

hanks for the review, Sarah. IO am sure that many of the Russian soldiers have no idea what they are fighting for.

War. What is it good for? It's isn't as time past when colonialization was prevalent. No one is going to secede their land. What in the world was Putin thinking? They couldn't negotiate port usage. DUMB.

Thanks for the review, Tom. This is what usually happens when you have politicians running the show.

Well, I hope they all do. I can't imagine that they don't recognize what they're doing when they are in that place and moment; yet, some of them do it with glee, we are finding out.
This is a thought-provoking poem - thank you for sharing.

Thanks, Pam. It is sad, but there are really evil people in this world.

Unfortunately, soldiers believe they're fighting for their country no matter how diabolical the battle seems. Let's just hope it will end soon. Your artwork looks like WW2.

It must be nightmarish (no pun intended) to be a soldier in modern times, when information about what's going on is readily available and blindly following orders is no longer admired. I feel there are no winners on the ground level of something that, in a sane world, really shouldn't happen any more! This was a well phrased piece.

Spot on Paul. You have totally summed up this horrendous situation in so few words, no more needed. I wish you lots of luck in the competition. Best wishes Jen.

Yes, Paul, I wonder the same thing. There are some reports of Russian soldiers walking away from their tanks... Turning back from the hell they are ordered to take part in.

Back in my day we used to ask:

"What if they gave a war and nobody came?"

I'm still hoping...
