In my opinion, a startling reality check, smoothly and artfully rendered in full compliance with the prompt.
Best wishes in the contest with this circumstance relevant entry...

Thanks for the review, Eve. I was never a soldier, so I can not imagine what it is like to be at war. That aside, television gives us the graphic details.

You're very welcome, Paul - one doesn't have to live an experience to feel it. Obviously, you are a compassionate individual, which makes you a sensitive and articulate writer...Eve

This war is horrific. Your poem expresses it succinctly -- well done. I love that you rhymed lines three and five too -- not easily done, nor is making a five-line poem flow off the tongue. Yours does, beautifully.
Best of luck in the contest.

Thanks, Dawn. I don't want to write about any more wars, but I can't help it.

I hear that! You're very welcome. (And same here -- I have to write about it too.)

Those are good questions you put in poetry form. I heard about many atrocities committed by the Russians, but I also heard about the regret many have at being forced to be a part of this slaughter. Best regards, Lilly

Thanks for the review, Lilly. I can't imagine being forced to kill innocent people.

I am sure many Russian soldiers are thinking this. Putin doesn't care how many of his soldiers die, he can ramp up the people with his lies. Many don't believe him, but too many do. It has been reported that Putin is seriously ill. The world waits to see just how ill. Well done, you have written a brilliant contest entry. Good luck! :)) Sandra xx

Thanks, Sandra. If he is ill, I would normally wish him a slow and painful death, but we need him gone ASAP.

I hope they have these thoughts as they slaugter innocent lives. However, if they have any conscience, they would have nightmares every night taking the life of people. Man, woman and children. Thank you.

Thanks for the review, Carolyn. There are going to be many bad dreams in Russia after this is over.

You are welcome.

Your poem is striking. In only five lines, it contains a plenty of emotions. It was a good idea to use Continuous tense - marching, praying - it creates a kind of distance between the protagonist and his actions.

Thanks, Joanna. Oh, oh. You're getting a little technical for me.

On the other hand (and to your point), I think a lot of Ukrainians will sleep soundly thinking of all the Russians they killed. Killing Russian soldiers has become something of a national sport. Of course Russia isn't exactly sending their best. It's almost like they want their soldiers to die. How strange.
Good piece. Killing is just one thing that Russia soldiers are doing; you've probably read about the tens of billions of dollars of stuff they have destroyed or stolen, shipping it to Russia. And then there is the torture and rape. We should sponsor a "kill a Russian" writing contest on FS.

Thanks for the review. Will the killing ever cease?

My grandfather fought in a war, and he refused to talk about it until just before he died. He said it was hard to live with the things he had to do to survive. I suppose that's true no matter on what side you fought.
