Magna finding freedom wherever there are cracks, but if we are on a return journey from whence we came your rock certainly represents a gentle reminder. I can see that clearly, and better than mine which I believe is a caveman's axe head.

I don't know Tom, the image of the cross is obviously there, but your idea of a caveman's axe, is definitely the shape of the rock. Could it have originally been the axe, before God crafted the cross into it? Your guess is as good as mine. And since this land has been nothing but hayfields for generations (part of many acres of the family's farmland) common sense would have me believe that it had to be worked up from the ground little by little, year after year when plowed and reseeded. However I do like the feeling and possibility of a divine message within.

Maybe I was misunderstood. I have no doubt of your rock. I do have a rock though that is shaped as an axe head. Got it on a walk along a beach on Kodiak Island, Ak.

Tom, I never doubted that you believed that my rock was authentic. I was just saying that I could see that mine too was shaped like an arrow head. And since still 20 years later it baffles me, as I don't understand how, why or when, so just wanted to share that with you, the circumstances of it always being farmland until we built. I know you too well to ever think you would doubt it. You my friend are too much of a gentleman! Thanks Tom!

It's exciting to find unusual shapes in rocks, and the crossing of perpendicular strata must be rare. The cross that is made by this quartz-like pair of lines does resemble the Christian cross, even in its proportions.
The reaction caption in the one-line poem is straightforward but ordinary, something the rock is not. I think better words could have been chosen to encourage reaction in the reader.

I think you are absolutely right Frank, as I think this rock needed a little longer piece in order to do it justice. I do regret my choice of not finding a different one line poem, as this rock did deserve more. I thank you so much for your kind words, along with such respectful feedback. The thing with these pieces is that they should stand on their own. The words and the title should be enough to give the reader the meaning or story.
I think without the author notes here, the reader would have a hard time deciphering this one.

You are right! Without the information, it loses half of its value. So I maybe should have waited and done this on a longer story or poem. However, so far most of the people are intrigued with the one liner, and say it adds to the mystery, since they don't get all the info in one place, as they read description and author's notes.

That's a beautiful thought. It is good to have such triggers. I have just been reading Joshua where they took stones (as they crossed into the Promised Land) from the Jordan River to make a cairn to trigger children's questions and serve as a memorial to God's power. Best wishes for your entry.
