What a rich and interesting life you have led. Your experiences did not stop with just you but extended to your family. Your outlook and life, other people, and cultures are a guide for us all. Exceptional work! Terry.

That's so cool how you've had opportunities to see the world and appreciate so much that's in it. It is also great that your children have that perspective and see the individuals first and not how they are different from themselves. Thanks for sharing!

Hi,
I read the story and loved it. I felt like a did a trip around the continents, around the world through the power of your storytelling voice and cultural observations.
-Nice idea and it worked, to show diversity in colouring the paragraphs of your essay to reinforce the theme,
-Another interesting point I admired in your story is that each child has a voice and is celebrated for his or her own uniqueness,
-I like how the author shared how her vision and understanding of diversity has evolved, bis evolving as well, while inviting people to do the same--to mutually embrace our similarities, while celebrating our differences.
-These are themes I am immersed in through scope of my profession, so I was pleased to fully immerse myself in the familiar themes of your story.
Very interesting read, fantastic story and representations!

Hi Wendy,
I enjoyed your piece. You have been so fortunate to travel through Europe and live in Saudi Arabia, enjoying various cultures, and meeting so many diverse people.
I have not been so lucky. In fact, my travels outside New Brunswick can be counted on one hand... Halifax and Lunenburg in Nova Scotia/ Cavendish and Charlottetown in Prince Edward Island/Quebec City in Quebec/Bar Harbor and Jackman in Maine/Orlando in Florida. So 5 visits. I was most impressed with Quebec City. In particular, Old Quebec. There's so much history there. But I started noticing a difference in buildings in northern New Brunswick. The French impact. Old Quebec was like going back in time. Cobblestone streets. And there was the fort from the days of Wolfe and Montcalm.
Anyway, I'm content to be a homeboy. I guess that's what you'd call me. One place I would like to visit though is Scotland. My ancestors were the MacGregors in the highlands.
You're exactly right... "Let's aim for acceptance, respect and appreciation, valuing and caring for our world."
Hugs,
Kimbob

One place I would love to see is Eastern Canada (particularly Quebec!) We've been to the west of Canada for a holiday and thoroughly enjoyed it. My husband also has Scottish background (the Gordon clan - I wonder if they were friends with the MacGregors?!) Thanks so much for your lovely review.

My favourite quote was when you said: "I don't need to agree with the beliefs of others before I value them as individuals". I also concur with the part about respecting people for who they are, rather than what they can do.

As well as all that, I just enjoyed reading your essay. What a lot of amazing experiences you've had. Was it difficult in Saudi Arabia? I think until recently, women weren't allowed to drive. Did you feel restricted at all?

I live in England, but I haven't seen nearly as much of Europe as you have, and I also only know Austria from "The Sound of Music"!

Thank you very much for your lovely response. Yes, Saudi Arabia was quite restrictive but we still had a valuable experience. I have written several stories about that time (in my portfolio) and more will be coming, hopefully soon. Women were not permitted to drive when we were there, but the law has been recently changed.
    Thanks again.

Wow, you have really traveled and lived many different lives. You've had experiences I could only ever dream of. I'm so glad you were able to, and just from reading this I can tell how that changed you and helped you grow as a person. For the disabled boy you fostered, I worked with the Developmentally Disabled community for years, and while its a challenge, there is so much that can be learned. I know that boy was so happy to have you. Thank you for sharing this.

My firm belief that God allowed all human life to descend from Adam & Eve, also causes me to believe that our differences in appearances is no more meaningful than a person desiring a mixture of red, yellow, blue and white roses in their garden. Despite the colors of the flowers, at the end of the day they are still roses and the gardener loves them all. He, the gardener does not punish the red roses for not being green or blue. He loves and accepts them all. That is how we should view our fellow humans, despite surface differences.

Hi Nomi, thank you for such a lovely (and wise) review. We are on exactly the same page. How boring if we all looked and thought the same. I like your analogy of the roses. God has shown he loves diversity because it is expressed so well in all creation. Thank you again. Greatly appreciated.

Wendy, this is a great essay on diversity. You have certainly experienced a lot of interesting things in your lifetime. Your words are so much needed in our world today, we must accept all people, regardless of race, and other differences. Very well written. I like how you used the different colour fonts for the paragraphs.
