This lovely, moving poem resonated with me. As I watched my daughter then much later my grandchildren playing, I had vivid memories of when I played the same way. Thank God for memories. Very well done

Yes it's a favourite childhood activity which brings joy and pleasure - the stanzas here forming like bookends as the older man reflects when 'he was blowing bubbles'

Barry,
This shows the freedom and ease of believing childhood derems. It shows introspection of the old man as he tries to see if he is anything like the boy he was or like the boys he is watching. I like the irony or both using a pipe.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Joan

This past weekend I passed a fragrance shop that had set up a large bubble machine outside, filled with lavender bubble bath. As it pumped out these lovely -scented bubbles, children ran through them and adults breathed in the scent.
Your poem touches on a part of so very many children's lives. Enjoyed it.

Very nice poem. Well written. Good work.
I like the way you made the full circle. You did it well, though in my experience, you may have stretched the comparison, since we blew bubbles through a hoop (loop?) on a stem, not a pipe.
Best wishes.

    Wayne,
Thanks for taking the time to read and review my poem. Yes there are a few different devices that are utilized to get the bubble effect. The one you describe is used over here as well. My main experience is with a small blow pipe style of bubble maker.
Take care and have a great day.
    Cheers

A nice link between the pleasures of a child blowing bubbles, carefree and innocent, and the old man life nearing its close relaxing over his pipe and reflecting. He is past the troubles of his working life. Well written, very thoughtful.

Love the rhythm of "Of days long gone and happy times/and how things used to be." I was left wondering what happened to the old man's past play mate? Nice job!

Yes, pipe dreams of the youngster blowing bubbles
with a pipe, and an older man blowing smoke through
his pipe as he thinks back when life was easy. Now at
his age it is again easy. But what about the time between
those tow ages? I enjoyed reading your poem, Barry.
The art was a great choice to pair with your well
thought out poem. You gave readers much to think about.
Respectfully, Jan

Whether we're young or young at heart, there are moments in our lives that will be remembered forever. Rainbow moments reflected in actual bubbles - or those that live in our hearts. Lovely piece. I enjoyed the nostalgia.

This poem reminds me of Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience by Emily Dickinson. There is a poignant contrast between the carefree boy with his bubbles and the older, troubled man watching the scene. Well done.
