This is a wonderful story Beth. You were so fortunate to have such a unique grandfather. He sounds like a wonderful person. Thank you for sharing his story. Nancy:)

Thank you Nancy, I feel very fortunate that this man was my grandpa and that I was able to spent all my growing up years around him.

Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. I enjoyed reading. I do understand. My father's parents never had indoor plumbing and I was in high school before they had electricity. I loved going there to visit.

He had little money to spoil me by buying things, but he showered me with attention. (I am positive a child cannot be spoiled from too much love.)

Thanks for the review, Barbara. I guess there are a lot of us had grandparents that liked like the way they always knew it. It very different from the world we live in today. I wonder what our grandparents will say about us when they get older.

Your grandfather sounds like a man I would have liked. It's not a easy task to accept the simple things and be satisfied. I was one of those who spent a lifetime chasing all the the things I thought were important, while missing out on all the things that truly should have been. But, time waits for no one. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Most people do chase after things they believe to be important. If my parents couldn't understand why my grandparents seems satisfied with so little or why I wanted to spend so much with them. As a child I loved the simple life but like most people as I got older I wanted more. Thank you for a great review.

That was a lovely story, Beth, and I personally think your grandparents had the right idea of what a good life is all about. We tend to put too much store on modern equiptment, but good as it might seem, many of our inventions are killing our planet. I bet your grandparents were a lot happier with their lot than most people are now. You are lucky being able to trace you family back to the first pioneers, how exciting! But again, I bet it was both hard work but rewarding. I really enjoyed your story, my friend. Well done! :)) Sandra xx

Thankyou so much for the review and comments, Sandra. My grandparents did seem content. I don't remember either of them expressing a desire for anything they didn't have.

This is an such an enthralling read, a glimpse into life in another era. The final two lines stand out in their depiction of life and how it was lived 'staying busy, enjoying the simple life' and being of help to neighbours. Perhaps these are beliefs and principles we need to dust down and re-engage with in our own time. The detailed descriptions of life and living bring the era alive. The makings of a good book here in this slice of social history. Are there any more such slices of life to come?

Thank you so much Zanya. I glad I was able to write Grandpa's story. It feels like that keeps him alive. I want my children to know what he was like. My two grandmother were remarkable women and I'll like to write about them and some others I knew, so I may continue to write this sort of story. Thanks for the awesome stars.

Whether you write, respect or regard, whatsoever, your grandpa was a true hero you know, saw and remember; he is great and more than a hero for he never thought of his own or personal gain, profit, convenience but he lived for others and for others' comfort and care in living; well said, well done; post god speed more; positively encouraging editing, negatively not wording, forgiving errors of theist-good authors-writers. You did an excellent job with your story of your Grandpa, Beth.
Even though it's a contest, your story stands out as a tribute to
this man. I enjoyed reading everything you mentioned. What
an amazing man he was, too, even though I only know of him
though this story. I love the way he (and Grandma) lived their
lives in a simple, but proud way. They stuck to their beliefs and
didn't let technology takeover. I love the way you wrote about how
much you loved and admired him--and rightly so.
Best wishes in the contest, Jan

Thank you so much Jan. I truly appreciate the review. At some point, I'll write about my grandmother who was an amazing woman too. It was getting way to long when I tried to add her into the mix.

What a remarkable pair they were, especially your grandfather. It sounds like you had the best of childhood in every way. They were very happy with their simple way of life, and I think were better for it. This is well written and had me glued all the way through. You really brought your grandparents to life.

Thank you so much for an excellent review. My two grandmothers were remarkable women who had a big imp act on my life but I couldn't fit all that into one story. I really appreciate the six stars.

A very exceptional biography
on your multi-talented grandfather. You penned this
fascinating story of him quite
superbly, Beth. My dear late
husband's family is from
Asheville, NC. His maternal grandmother lived in her old
white farmhouse with an
outhouse. We loved her so
much. She passed away in
2000. Your grandfather lived
a good life, I'm glad you and
him were close. Blessings ~

My children were adored by their maternal grandpa, and they adored him, they wept at his funeral, and he also spoiled his only daughter Elaine, but my girls weren't so close to my dad, but close to mum. I never met either of my grandfathers, and left my maternal back in England when we migrated. Beautifully written, what a man your grandad was, wished we knew what he knew about the acid he harvested, beautifully writtrm beth, blessings Roy

Thank you for an excellent review. I only had the one living grandfather but both grandmothers were living and they made a big impact on my life as well.
