Ciao Marco,

ageing is not easy nor pleasant

An elderly couple lucky to be still together is a lovely sight ...I love "gnarled hands still enclapsed"; these 4 word alone conveys not only that they are old but that they are still a close knit couple.

I could see this poem even in a more reduced version.

I can only imagine the pain being the one that survives the other. I can understand why often the partner left behind dies soon after. It's sad but kinda tragically romantic too , if you know what I mean.

I love the pic and the colour scheme.

    Tempeste,

Your review probably deserves a six star rating. You read a lot of meaning into my simple thought. I originally had arthritic hands but thought that sounded too harsh (or medical?).

FanArt is my go-to source for illustrations for all my posts. This one is a snow scene and not a fall scene (for the autumn of one?s life).

Hi Mark, this is such a heartfelt and charming poem for the Love Poem Contest. In three lines, your poem speaks volume. No fluff or fill-in words. Good imagery and sensory appeal. I especially liked:

lovers gnarled hands still
enclasped after many years ~
(Precious)

Well chosen photo. Good luck in the contest. LateBloomer

I think whoever took the picture you used with your poem messed up. They could have been tighter on the couple and still showed the winter wonderland they're walking in. Good luck in the contest.

Sorry Earl, but it is a FanArtist who took the photo. If you or I shot the picture we would likely have cropped it. Thanks anyway for your review and stats.

I really like this piece. When such deep meaning and feeling is captured effectively in such a short and punchy poem, the reader gets to enjoy so much. Thanks for sharing.

    Eliz T,

So pleased with your comments. Methinks this is your first review of my short verse poem style. My poetry wheelhouse does not include longer verses.

Little can replace the shared intimacy of a long life lived and lived together...

Very nice Katuata....(I think your "s" is trying to run away from your "winter" though!)

Smile,

Karenina

Hello Mark,
What a great poem. Love that lasts a lifetime is so rare anymore. There is a certain comfort knowing that you can be yourself with the one you love. I wish that more people would commit to a lifetime together. Thanks for sharing. I really like the picture as well.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

    Tom,

It is not biographical but I have been with my spouse for many years. Maybe we are in the autumn and not the winter of our lives. LOL

Hi Mark, the fact that you're still married is a testimony to others around you, well done. Jan and I just celebrated fifty years on March 24. It's amazing how fast the time passes. Enjoy your bride my friend.
    Blessings

Mark, this is a very lovely Katauta poem of two elderly people who could probably outshine any younger couple in love. As most of us who have been blessed with many years, real love is is often made up of many years of hard work, much forgiveness and not giving up when things were rough. My husband and I will be celebrating 48 next week, with over 2 yrs of dating prior. I am more in love now then I ever thought possible. I feel what this couple feels as you use the winter of their years together as symbolic of a passion not measured by lust for each other, but a true and meaningful trust and feelings that are almost impossible to describe. At least that is my interpretation of your stunning and beautiful poem. Good luck in the contest!

    Debi,

I share similar longevity and relationship with my spouse. Maybe we are still in the autumn of our lives. LOL

I think you are right my friend. I have known some who make it to 70 something so we have a chance. And I left out two other qualities that are so true of many years of marriage and thats trust and respect.

in the winter of their lives

Very nice katauta about love through time. I love the presentation and the bitter sour mood. I like sad poems..must be the dramatic Spaniard in me. LoL. Goo6luck in the contest.

BTW...I wrote a katauta today too. I don't know what's going on lol

    Thanks Jessi!

My hands are not gnarled and maybe I am just in the autumn of my life. But likely age will catch up with us as ?our? time passes.
