I started not to respond to this because it did make me a sort of uncomfortable, and, to be honest, I was surprised, and unsure as to what to say. You were so nice about my post that you critiqued, and I wanted to reciprocate in the same manner.
This story, though, is a bit confusing to me and I don't want to appear naïve and/or stupid, so I'll just say it is definitely thought provoking. I am curious as to other responses you've received. I'm sure they're better than mine.

Hi, Katherine, I have no doubt not everyone is going to enjoy the way I embellish and exaggerate, sometimes pushing the limits of reality. I'm happy you responded to my work that's why we are here. Perhaps you will like the next one a bit better. Best, JohnC

A very interesting story about the dynamics surrounding prejudice against gay people and the ramifications of such actions, both for the gay person in the story and the friend, the coach/father and the other players.

This is a really great story. I liked it a lot. I am a football fan and enjoyed reading your take on how things behind the scenes. Coaches and players and the drama that can unfold. Good job!

John... So much to absorb here. Each time I read it through I think I Have a handle on it...but do any of us really understand the layers upon layers of self-denial and bias and cruelty? Labels--if only things were that easy
Good and evil, black and white, moral and immoral. Seems everyone has their own version of justice -- and each has had to sell a bit of his or her soul to get through the night.
Ty's dad. Could he only change by threat and blackmail? If so, has he really changed at all? Ty and Lynx--do they even understand their relationship?
In our world where gender is a continuum, where students are asked to choose, he/him, or she/her, or they -- can we say there is progress?
What if the answer is none of the above? How do we get to unconditional love or acceptance?
I will read this again tomorrow. And again. Each time I am certain I will tease a new perception from your writing. You make me think, care, ponder, reflect...
Whatever tolerance looks like, I want to be more like that!
With every character, I thought "What if that was my boy?" Maybe we all need to ask that question. "Tread lightly" --indeed!

Thank you, my friend, this was a hard one to write as some of the names were changed to protect the innocent. Thank you so much for this wonderful review. I'm off to bed. :)
