This is wonderful Verna. I was with you every step of the way. I didn't realize you knew my grandparents. I thought I was their only grandchild. Seriously those memories are so close to my own I felt right at home. This is excellent writing.

I never really had that privilege when I was young, for the first eight years of my life we lived with my maternal grandmother, and then we moved to Australia, I saw here when she visited Australia when I was 17, but never saw her again, my paternal grandmother was too forbidding. I enjoyed this work so much. I made a vicarious journey with you, well done, blessings Roy

This is a heartwarming write. Though I did not have the same experience--my grandmom lived in the city -- I remember snippets of my own memories here. My grandmom used to gather things in her apron, my grandpa used that leather strop-- While we did not kill the chicken I was always thrilled to be made "assistant chef" whenever dinner was being prepared! Our ancestors remain alive in our hearts because of such things. This is beautifully penned.

What better way to describe green peppers than 'greener than the grasshoppers hiding under them? I love picture phrases like that.
Another phrase may be used a lot but 'burdened with' always spells a yummy looking dinner table for me.
It just sounds luscious; 'lather them...' My Mom always used that term, and no other says it better, you have to lather a fresh, hot biscuit!
And you are right, even if you are ready to pop, a piece of blueberry pie always fits, somehow.
Something that today's convenience may have stolen from us is the 'smell of sunshine and summer breezes;' nothing better than that smell.
I thoroughly enjoyed this fantasy; did I already say that? At any rate you did an old man's heart a favor when you submitted this one, thank you dear.
