Spooky and mysterious. I like it. Perfect satisfaction of the line and syllable count and the don't rhyme consideration yet you tell an understandable story. Nicely done.

A thoughtful one about prayer/wishes. There is are two twists in the thought in this cinquain tanka - first that something has died with the reference to "funeral pyres" and then something has been released and went to Heaven, like the "Thy will be done" in a prayer.
Best wishes in the contest!!

Excellent entry for the cinquain tanka contest. Good syllables count and connection between lines. The presentation is nice. The poem's flow is well done.

Only those who truly connected with those loved ones who have departed will know what they are whispering and their words will be remembered forever, a fine write, love Dolly x

Yes indeed, some desired things are whispers that really fill the air with self's seeking for tit bits, instead of much needed things, beautifully written, good luck, blessings Roy

This cinquain tanka, Whispered Wishes, has the right setup and notes that these prayers rise unnoticed by everyone except the One for whom they meant.

Had to look up 'cinquain tanka,' interesting!
I liked your 'Up in Smoke' poem, reminiscent of those lines and rhymes we think of in moments when we are busy doing something else and then by the time we slow down and pick up a pen, they are gone forever.
Very original poem, hope you did well in the contest!

Hello :)
I enjoyed reading your cinquain tanka, which is in excellent form and meets the contest requirements.
Lovely use of alliteration in line one and effective enjambment of lines throughout. I really like the simile... hope those wishes are granted!
Good luck in the voting booth.
Best wishes, Debra :)

I love your words. The way you arrange them helped me picture your idea, as well. Thank you for sharing this beautiful poem here, and best wishes to you.

And perhaps those wishes/vapors make it all the way to heaven and are heard. The image of smoke, the background with the white lettering all combine to make a very ghostly appearance on the page. Good luck with your entry.
