Thank you, Dawn. It was a very special experience. I hate to shut the door and leave him that night. Maybe I should have made him a house pet. hahaha
-
Hahaha -- um, no to the house pet idea. Methinks at least one cat would have a new 'toy'... HAHAHA!

A lovely first and last poem Yvonne and what a delight for such a tiny creature to sit and spend some time with you. I
find that amazing. Loved this one, cheers

It was amazing! I felt so good having him on my hand. I hated to leave him. Thanks, Valda. I hope you are doing well.

I'm sure the praying mantis meant well, but I wonder at your patience in holding it in your hand for an hour. Did you ever discover what message he wanted to deliver? This is delightful. I like the repeating line. You gave such a great description of the little critter with his shiny eyes. Excellent rhyme, too. judi

Thank you. I hated to leave him, but it was getting late. They are very friendly little creatures. I don't what his message was, but I felt good after his visit.
-
You're welcome. Maybe that was the idea--just to make you feel good. judi

This is a beautiful poem woven with meaning, by my way of thinking. Thank you! Nothing needs changing, of course. (The last line, "Say way" could work as "same way" too, but either way, still beautiful!)

This poem--in part, ekphrastic, since the artwork identifies the visitor--
is excellent in every respect. It is vividly descriptive and even heartwarming, since the little praying mantis seems to have a personality.

These are amazing little creatures but for some reason, I don't enjoy holding insects. I can't imagine having one sit on my hand so long, but I did love your poem about the experience. When I was four, I saw one standing in a bush and I insisted my mom come outside and see the little man. Mom asked before coming out what the little man was doing and I told her he was just standing there rubbing his hands. LOL

Awww, how cute. Yes, they do seem to rub their hands a lot. Thanks for reviewing.

What a lovely little piece. You are amazing, adopting any living creature that comes within sight. It doesn't matter if it is a cute and cuddly creature or ... a preying mantis. Are you sure you are not descended from St Francis of Assisi?

What a lovely thing to say! I have a statue of him in my garden. A loved one that just died, and I felt this was sort of a sign, especially since I couldn't get him off my hand. He refused to any bush I offered. I hated to leave him, and it's true he was still looking through the glass door when I went to bed.

I think that is a beautiful connection with nature. You must be a gentle quiet person and he felt no fear. A lovely description of his eyes looking at you. So beautifully written - very enjoyable read.

Yvonne, damommy, this poem is charming and heartfelt. Your lines and verses quickly pull the reader into the poem and keeps their attention until the very last line. I especially liked:
It seemed to me he'd things to say,
and so I gave my hand that day.
(Perhaps, your tiny visitor was Mr. Right?)
Question, did you mean look or "looked" ...
his shiny eyes look right at me,
Silky rhyming. Well chosen photo. A pleasure to read. This poem made me smile. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer

I love this poem!
It's playful, light with a touch of whimsy. Compared to a lot of heavy topics I've read lately on this site, this is a welcomed treat.
How lucky you were to experience this. I'm curious... what did it feel like? Thanks for sharing.
