A very realistic poem about summer, which resonates with me as our summers are both very hot and very humid. I enjoyed "ducks drowning in humidity"! Alliteration is good. Very well written.

Hello Yvonne,
Perhaps you should try to get a summer home up in Alaska. If you don't go into the Interior (Fairbanks) you can enjoy some cooler temps. We're in the fifties right now in Southcentral (around Anchorage) and if feels really comfortable. If you don't mind the rain, it seldom gets above eighty in Southeast. You could come up and work at the cannery dealing with tourists working at a shop. The downside is you'd probably have to share a dwelling with a bunch of other transient people, mostly young, who might have a different idea of what constitutes peace and quiet. So nice to have you back again my friend.
Have a blessed day.
Tom

Thank you, Tom, for your concern and support. It means a lot to me. I would love the cooler temperatures, and I love rain. I'm too old to start a new job, though. Guess I'll stick around here, and I mean stick in this humidity. hahahaha

Great words to describe the summer heat--sweltering, sizzling. You really have us feeling the heat. Summer does have its drawbacks. As you write, summer's fine if you enjoy living in a sauna. That's what it feels like. Great word choices. judi

I enjoyed this poem, as it is well presented and well written. It's whimsical, happy and light. Given the amount of heavy themed poetry I've read lately on this site, your poem is refreshing.

It's a pleasure to read you again, Yvonne.
I agree with every word you say. The only think I like about summer in Spain is the holidays and going to the pool. That's why I try to escape to England when I can.
You've used some interesting alliterations, both with s and d (I might have overlooked others).
My favourite line is the one about the duck drowning in humidity.Great image.

I enjoyed your free verse poem. This is second one today I've read about how hot the summer sun can be. I just starting to enjoy spring. Why is we bemoaning the heat of summer already? I'm still using my heater in the early morning.

Hello Yvonne, very good, very cute. It's good to see you in print again.
Your poem illustrates the hot, humid, lazy days of summer. From your writing, I can tell that you're note a fan of summer. You feel about summer, the way that I feel about winter. Snow. Ugh. A commuter's nightmare. I especially liked:

Summer is great
for those stout souls
who enjoy living
in
a
sauna.

(Y, I hate to sweat too, but for me, air-conditioning takes care of most of my woes. I don't like being cold because being hungry usually follows. In the summer, we all scream for ice cream. Yummy. Fall is my favorite season.)

I loved your photo choice. It made me laugh. A timely poem. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer

This is a fun and humorous free verse poem for the Club! So happy you are back and giving us challenges again.
I especially loved the "humidity to drown a duck" and being burned to look like a "a giant cardinal."
You kept your rant about summer light and full of humor!

I've sung that very song, Summertime by Gershwin, from Porgy and Bess, My sister in law doesn't like summer either, she comes from Poland. A beautifully written written free verse Yvonne, you're good at these, blessings Roy

I live in Louisiana, and I know exactly what you mean. They call this "the devil's armpit" if they are being nice. Thank you for the laugh, and best wishes to you.
