Enjoyable story with a limited word count. So like two children with an imagination to believe in the unbelievable. And imagination is important, especially in childhood. Very smart mother too. Good read.

I liked your family entry, it reminded me of a time when I hid in my bedroom closet, lit a candle and read spells from a book. Mom caught me.

You cast a spell on me while reading it, caught up in your youthful imagination and sisterly instruction while destroying Mama's treats, even throwing in part of a Shakespearean witch chant. Your long-suffering mother handled the situation with patience and good grace.
(Your note is important. In my own family we were instructed similarly, but my 11-yr-old brother died when he drank paint stripper out of an unmarked cordial bottle at someone else's house.)

Thanks for your response. I was 10 when it happened. I lost my best friend and my parents were devastated. It wasn't their fault at all as it happened at someone else's home. It was the strongest lesson possible not to drink from bottles unless we knew exactly what was in it. I am nearly 70 now and Terry's death has stayed with me vividly. It happened 2 days before Christmas and has blighted every Christmas since.

That's terrible. Tragedies are awful enough without having a holiday associated with it. Please accept this virtual hug! Have you written about it? Though it can be tough to write about painful memories, it can be cathartic--even if it's for your eyes only.

Thank you. Yes, I usually write out the bad aspects of my life and it does help. Mainly I focus on good stuff though, of which there is much to appreciate.
