This is a fantastic short story, Jenifer. I can absolutely see why it won! You have told an excellent narrative in such a small frame, but it doesn't sacrifice on detail or description. I am always pleased when I come across stories that feel familiar and lived, and this is definitely one of those. It is a sweet memory with just a glimpse of adventure. Very well done. Keep writing!

It sounds like the mixture was probably a concoction of not a good thing to drink. Isn't potion supposed to be a drink where you feel magical?
What did you do with the mixture when finished? Toss it down the toilet?

It certainly wasn't drinkable, but our vivid imaginations led us to believe we were making magic. When we were done, we would drain the sink and start over. Thank you for taking the time to review my story and for the excellent rating. Warm wishes.

This is an adorable story of two mischievous sisters both bonding and with great imaginations. I love mom's response gently reprimanding and allowing kids to be just that: Kids.
I bet this story was repeated in the family for years.
good luck in the contest.
Best wishes,
Mary

This story, Potions in the Bathroom Sink, is a very cute tale of sisters at the height of play and bonding. This interaction with Mom was also a telling sign of a well-adjusted family relationship. Nice memory.

I imagine that event lived on for many a days, months and years afterwards, and each retelling of it made you smile. If only my vote counted, you win hands down.

Hey! No fair! I want to go back in time and have my mom learn from yours! We did similar things and believe me, we did NOT get away with a swap out of "potions"--more like a shiny red bottom I'm afraid!
Still, I love your true account. I do remember the innocence and delight of falling into the "spell" of innocence and believing all things are possible.
There was that other time we took over our garden shed as our castle...and broke out every can of paint in the basement to make it many MANY colors!
Oh boy...
I'm surprised I'm STILL not grounded for that one!
Thanks for the trip down memory lane...

Thank you Jen for this extreme ingenuity and fun story! It was so cute, that I had to read it twice! Your writing was spot on and I loved the different ingredients that you used in your patient. I was so sure when you guys said double trouble, that the eyeball of fish was going to boil over. This was really cute, which happens to be my favorite reading! Awesome job Jen!
