How useful to discover a new word to use for that pesky 'x'! Sharing information and encouragement on this writing site is perhaps a bit like using the camping stove for canning, collecting good things and cooking them up to share.

LisaMay, I absolutely love the way you make connections with ideas and words! This was quite the challenge for me this month. At one point I didn't know if I would make it! I so appreciate your encouragement along the way.

You always take me back to happy times. I'll never forget canning up enough goods to last three or four families for the winter, and giving a large portion of them away. But most of all, having them to eat on my own place. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Of course, I had to Google "xyst" for a definition and picture. (It kept giving me a "cyst.") I have never heard the word. The definition and your words created a wonderful image of a "xyst."
Very well-written.
Best wishes,
Mary

Oh, Mary, I got the same thing when I Googled the word xyst! It was interested to learn the word in "lyenochka's" book earlier this month. I so appreciate your riding along in this April journey with me. It has been quite the challenge! Your comments mean so much to me.

Xyst? That's a thing? I had no idea! I love your image, and I love the imagery that your poem creates. You are very detailed. I love it, but I especially love the first two lines:
"Though you are not lined with tall trees,
your roof protects us from the breeze." AMAZING.

Thanks, Ave! Yes, I needed to double up on a few of the letters since there are only 26 and I need 30 poems! Thanks for keeping me in line!

thanks for the thanks. Use of the word xyst came across as unforced, much more poetic than 'breezeway' in my opinion. The poem overall was really good - you chose a subtle form, that you put to good use.

Hello Mama Baer
I must have missed that particular post by Helen. But it certainly worked perfectly for your book. The octelle form is neat. Exactly right for the description of this special part of your home. I'm quite confused by the proliferation of forms that use repeating lines. LOL
Stay safe and blessed, Julia

Thank you, Julia! And yes, lots of forms with repetitive lines...it feels a little like cheating! LOL
Sending lots of good wishes to you!

Thanks for the mention and thanks to Kate for suggesting it. I'm glad my word blurb found some use!
Enjoyed your octelle and I'm wondering if the xyst was covered by the grapevines.

Thanks for the inspiration, Helen! Alas, no--the grapes are in a little nook of their own with an arbor entrance, but the grapes themselves aren't covered. The 'breezeway' xyst connects Dad's shop with the back patio. But I thought it might work for this purpose! Sending lots of good wishes!
