First of all, I loved the sound of the title "Cicada Sonata," and "solace sonata" finished it perfectly. The feeling of pain was accentuated by the differently colored words and the picture.

Gypsy,
This tanka tells of how the cicada song calmed the pain of memories that darkness brings. The font colors match the artword pallette well.

This sonata tanka was definitely intriguing, Gypsy. I thought the picture at the beginning was interesting and the one at the end showed the bug. Your words showed the affects of the solar eclipse on these little creatures. Blessed be n hugs!

Comment from Gloria ....
This is certainly romantic, and using that in combination with cicadas is a glorious choice.
Your presentation depicts a softness, juxtaposed by the pain.
Very well done here, Gypsy. Much enjoyed.

I really liked the "solace sonata." Despite the emotional darkness, stuck in painful memories, the sounds of nature can soothe us. I like the transition from the darkness to the comforting cicada-companions.

I am not a poet, so I appreciate your explanation and history of the Tanka. I visited the Tanka Society of America and read the poetry of their top three winners. This poetry form seems to be the perfect outlet to briefly express feelings. In your poem, the words pain and darkness express a feeling of loneliness, accompanied only by a solace sonata. I love your artistic presentation.

Hi Gypsy Blue Rose, this is a
6 star poem, but I've run out
of them. Such a beauteous
Tanka with the elements of
remembrance, pain, and night. I love the mystery of
the night. This is a very
impressive Tanka. Blessings
