You live the good life, and I do not wish to contend but I find stanza two, ununiformed, and so i tried to see what I would do differently. Not that it improves it. We all have poetic license. It simply sounded better FOR me with something like:
And where there's no ground, I have pots
potted on my deck to further convert.
idk. You need not agree, of course. Different tracks for different horses.
This is a lot of conversation to earn two points. :-))

The good life? Well, I am retired, widowed, and have the time to write way into the night if I want to, and I usually do.
I admit that line does sound rather strange, and I appreciate your suggestion, but as I am rather strange, too, I think I'll leave it be.
By the way, if you were a little boy, I'd love to read to you, sitting on my knee. :)

I often feel the same in regards to making ?suggestive? change. 😇

    thank you!
Though it's not actually my deck, that hammock looks mighty inviting! The only drawback to my huge oak growing up in the deck, is it drops leaves and squigglies in the pool and all over everywhere - and the green pollen over everything, It's almost over, though, I think.

This is a lovely poem. Plants are such a joy. A tree though your deck sounds really great. Nothing like a shade tree out in nature as the day draws to an end.

true, true. As soon as the green pollen and squigglies stop falling, I'll be out there.
    thank you!!

This is a very well written poem you have penned about Earth Day. You used very good descriptive words and very nice imagery. I love it when we plant our garden and my flowers. That is my happy time and my husband's in his garden. Thank you for sharing. love and blessings, Teri

thanks, Teri. Unfortunately (after an hour, looking) I couldn't find a picture of a deck with a tree in the middle that also had pots of flowers, but this photo looks relaxing, so...
Anyway, I'm with you - love to plant and see the results.
    Thanks again!!

I love plants in pots on decking to make it look inviting, yet neat and tidy at the same time, you made this sounds so relaxing that I might just pop in for a coffee, love Dolly x

wish you could!! wouldn't that be fun? and you could take a swim in the pool, if you liked. (That'd be a mighty "pop!" however) :)
Thanks for reading. wish the picture had lots of pots, but got tired of looking and I couldn't get much of my tree in a picture, so just settled on this one.

Hello Katharine,
I love flowers and a well landscaped lawn. I was at Home Depot yesterday buying a cart to haul the dirt and fertilizer around, and saw the pallets of garden soil and fertilizer and grass seed that they have stacked. It's a little too early to get out and try to plant anything outside here, we still have patches of snow on our lawn, and the ground is frozen, but by mid- May it should all be ready. That's one of the disadvantages of living so far north, spring is short lived and takes forever to get here. I envy you your blooming flowers. Well done on the poem gal. Happy gardening.
Have a blessed day.
Tom

And I envy you your lawn. Snow - reminds me of when I lived in the mountains of Colorado. My house is a "garden home" on a small plot; however, I have a lovely pool and three huge oaks, which makes me a happy camper. All my flowers and greenery are in pots as my only ground is two strips of grass (I'm on a corner) between my driveway and the two streets. But two of my oaks are on those strips, the other, inside my fence outside my kitchen windows. Hey, tomorrow's the 22nd - maybe your book will come!

    Hi Katharine,
I checked on the progress of the book today, and it's the same message that it was last time I checked. It says it's supposed to arrive at the post office at 8:00 PM. I hope so. If it doesn't get there in the next few days let me know and I'll send another one, this time first class. I don't think I've ever had one not make the destination, though there was one incident where it went to the mail room of a company where the person it was for worked, and someone opened the package and took the book. Anyway, keep me posted.
    Blessings
    Tom

I think the picture got the point across. It sounds like you have a great relationship with the outdoors. Thank you for sharing this poem here. It makes me want to garden, too.

have you got a place to plant? It does wonders for me, the actual planting, and then the pleasure when things bloom is the bonus.
You could have your own tomato plant! :) in a big pot.
reply by jessizero on 21-Apr-2022
I am sure I could find some place around here somewhere. :)

A lovely tribute to our earth and the natural pleasures it brings to us all. You've written a very nice poem, and you've met the requirements of twelve lines with a rhyme scheme. Good luck with the contest:-)

    thank you so much.
What, if I may ask, is the significance of the blue duck? (I can't read what's written on him)

    Blue duck?

    ok. blue bird?
reply by Pam Lonsdale on 21-Apr-2022
Oh!! That is the bluebird of happiness located on the pier in Vilano Beach, near where I live in St. Augustine. I used that for my profile picture instead of one of myself.

Oh, well, you should put your own so we can get to know you better. :)

Hello Katharine :)
I really enjoyed reading your poem and your deck sounds idyllic! I laughed at the way you corrected yourself here - 'A big tree grows right through my deck-- Or rather, deck circles the tree;'
I don't have a deck... I have a patio, which I guess is similar.... stone slabs rather than wooden deck boards. (No tree!) At the moment, my patio is a riot of colour and is surrounded by flowering spring bulbs. It's my own piece of heaven.
As I type, I'm thinking that I should be in the garden doing a spot of weeding or perhaps planting some tomato seeds ready for going in the greenhouse - it's my therapy too!
Best wishes as always, Debra x

Ah, Debra, I wish we were neighbors!
Thanks for your lovely long response. I've got Hibiscus (ses) blooming and confederate jasmine all over my side fence and, it seems I went a bit bazurk with yellow this year - but there's plenty of coral impatiens and blue phlox, orange-ish geraniums, etc., and other stuff. AND squirrels, totally undisturbed and undeterred by the red pepper sprinkled around them. well, as a friend of mine says, such is life.
    PS
    Your patio sounds beautiful!

Your garden sounds absolutely gorgeous. A riot of colour and you can never have too much yellow! I?m going to message you my email address?. Please feel free to be in touch and send as many garden pics as you like! LOL
I?ve been weeding around the base of the raspberries this aft, my back is shot, but at least I made some headway to them not being strangled!
