This poem makes me think of our Mama Kitty (aptly named!) who died at age 13 when I was a kid. I believe she thought she was human. I still, at age 70, think of her. Your poem is moving and expressive of how very close we can be to our pets.

A lovely tribute to your furry friend. I'm sure you will always miss him on your walks, but he loved you (I know this because he wanted to play with you) and you will have memories of your guy to make you smile.

Well, I managed to get through this poem with only moist eyes, but when I read your author notes, the tears ran over. This is beautiful and sad and something we can all relate to, I'm sure. It is so difficult to say goodbye to our loved pets and I too, like to think they will be waiting for us in heaven. Thanks for sharing this. It is so touching, and I'm sorry for your family's loss. What a beautiful creature. MM

Thank you, he was a special doggie (we all say that, but it is always true). My daughter got him via the internet. He was rescued from the Katreina flooding in Texas. He actually belonged to her but I often walked him or took him in when she and her family were away. My other daughter and family all loved him too. Our properties are abutting, so we called him the "compound doggie". He won our hearts on his first day here.

Hello Dennis,
I'm so sorry about your dog. We lost ours a few years ago and it still hurts. They become such a part of our lives, it doesn't seem fair that they don't live as long as us. Is there ever a more faithful friend than a dog? I hope your memories of him are all wonderful and that they bring you some peace.
God bless and keep you my friend.
Tom

Thanks Tom. Although he was really my daughter?s dog, J often walked him and we always kept him when my daughter was away. So he really was part of 3 families as my two daughters, their husbands and children all live right next door to us. The 3 properties about so we call it the compound. Thanks and I agree they are faithful and loving. I like the bumper sticker; Oh God, make me the man my dog thinks I am. 👍😀

This is a very precious and heartfelt poem you have penned about your dear pet that is now gone on. I believe if Jesus is coming back on a white horse surely there are animals there. I hope to see some of our pets that have gone on too. I am so sorry for your loss. Blessings, Teri

We will have quite a collection of furry, four legged friends up there, I'm not absolutely sure that we will, scripture says there spirits go down, where? I'm not sure. Ecclesiastes 3:21. But I know how you feel, our last dog, Buddy, was ball mad, we've 16 animals overall since marriage, beautifully written Bro, blessings Roy

Darn it! You made me cry. Anyone who's had that one special pet could not help but be moved by such a heart-felt tribute. I'm not convinced there's a heaven, but if there is, I know Murphy's waiting for me. Thank You...great job.

This is a beautifully written poem. So sad to lose our pets they are part of the family.
Like this line. But I trust when our turn comes, we shall see him,
waiting 'round the bend.

    Your welcome
reply by the author on 19-Apr-2022
That's "you're welcome", not "your welcome".

If it was "your welcome" in thanking me, it would be an incomplete description of my welcome in some other setting. :) (just funning you a little bit, but I don't think you will ever forget this correction. And that's a good thing in writing! God bless, Dennis

What a beautiful tribute to your friend. You did a great job, and I loved reading it. If all my loving friends are waiting for me around the bend, I'm going to have to open a kennel for them. I can't wait to see them again. Have a great week, my friend. Shirley

I don't know that God is good, but I know that dogs are. And I do hope that any version of life beyond death includes the Chorkey that lives with us now. "Waitin' Round the Bend" expresses the writer's love for a family dog, who, the poem hopes will prove to have sped ahead and be waitin' round the bend. The poems lines and rhymes create a lyrical movement smooth as a dog's trot; this sentimental poem never loses it trail.

Thank you, Frank, for your kind words. I would suggest if dogs are good (and they are) than it follows the Giver is good too. Appreciate your review!
