This is an excellent start to a tale that pulls the readers in, and has them itching to know more. I hope that this is the seed for a longer piece that you will develop after the contest is over. I for one would be delighted to read more.

I'm a Star Trek fan so do like future stories. I suggest making the font bigger would make the story easier to read. I would also put a space between she knelt on the ground and the dog's "Yes". Well written, held my attention and loved the surprise ending. A talking dog. Eager to hear what he has to say.

The word (were) should be (where) where their mother met their father. Otherwise, everything is perfect. I like this little story and the ending is great. I wish you tons of luck in the contest.
