Cats! Nosy would offend! They are sophisticated and curious, don't you know!
We ought got be flattered if they pay any attention at all!

Giggling...

Hi Debra,
Nosy is right. We have 3 cats left... Chico, Ray-Ray, and Angel. Our wonderful Maine Coon, Roger, passed away a couple of years ago. Angel is pretty laid back, loves my wife. Chico and Ray-Ray are bad boys, into everything. All of a sudden, they'll race through the house! Crazy nuts.
I enjoyed your cinquain poem. You've got the syllable count right. I especially like the alliteration of,
"Nosy Nefertiti"
Good pairing, poem and picture.
I hope you'll try an octogram before the month is through.
Hugs,
Kimbob

Hi Kimbob :) Thanks for your great feedback.
Good to hear about your cats, I'm sure they're part of the family - when I lived at home with my parents, we had two cats, Barney and Treacle - they were absolutely gorgeous and such characters.
Now I need to remind myself what an octogram is and have a go, don't I?!
Best wishes as always, Deb x

Dear Deb, I hope this helps...
Here's one of my own octograms, called:
    WITCH HAZEL

Witch Hazel failed her flying test.
    She crashed her broom.
The worst marks in the wicked west,
    they sealed her doom.
    Her magic was deniable.
    Her spells were unreliable.
Too low, too fast, I would assume.
    She crashed her broom.

But Hazel wanted to be best,
    the brightest bloom.
With lots of practice, she progressed
    and shed her gloom.
She took the test a second time,
but struggled as she tried to climb.
    Police blamed alcohol consumed.
    She crashed her broom.
    *******************************
The Octogram was invented by Fanstory member, Sally Yocom.
    2 stanzas of 8 lines
    The syllable counts should be:
    8-4-8-4-888-4; 8-4-8-4-888-4
Each line must be written in iambic meter.
The rhyme scheme for the first stanza:
    aBabccbB
    for the second stanza:
    ababddbB
where the capital B's denote repeated lines, word for word.

"Just Curious" is a clever little poem about a cat with a famous pharaohess's name. (A famous pharaohess wore a brilliant cotton dress; in the stateroom, on the barge, Nefertiti packed a charge...) Ms. White's poem uses sound and rhythm to catch our ears and coax out our smiles. This is an excellent small poem.

Lovely Ekphrastic Cinquain. I love cinquain poems...such a beautiful form. I love your presentation too...the cat picture is adorable. It's so much like a cat to do that. Well done.

A sweet and fun cinquain poem for today. I like the name: Nefertiti. It reminds me of The Ten Commandments. Sending you my best today as always and blessings for your writing endeavors,

Now really, what did you expect? She is a cat after all, and that is what cats do really. They sit back and observe. I used to get into staring contests with a cat I once claimed as a pet, I think I was more her pet than she was mine. The look of intelligence was so remarkable that I often became uncomfortable and would be forced to look away.

You did a great job on your cinquain, Debra. I enjoyed reading it.
Your third line, the pivot line, works well. So many miss that line.
The picture is precious and your words are well chosen to suit it.
Respectfully, Jan

Hi Debra,

I think the cinquain was the perfect choice for an ekphrastic rendition of this piece of art.

Nefertiti's namesake would be proud.

Great job!

I think you captured the sometimes a little annoying cat that always needs to know what you're doing very well here.

The understated humour still has me smiling.

Excellent addition to your book.
