This was such a pleasure from beginning to end. You moved the story along nicely. Your characters are so real I felt I was right there among them. The picture matches the story perfectly.

It is amazing how things such as the offspring of various animals can rule the attention of those who are tinder to such. It brought back days when my kids were small and their days when riding in various events. Good dialog.

The story is moving along nicely and I'm enjoying both the pace and the plot. The characters are well-defined and the imagery is great. I love the picture you chose to set the scene. Looking forward to the next chapter. ann

Hello, Barbara

I am not reading much nor writing at all, but I have a handful I am trying to keep up with for now. Of course, I always enjoy your stories and this one is a favorite. Wonderful family life on the ranch!

Hugs and love, Carol

It is known that moving cattle is not always for an old man to tackle; especially if their health is not good. I wonder how long Alexandra will remain on the ranch before she goes back to New York. Forever?

Very macho, the father ;does not want to be challenged by the younger generation, But it was nice that he spoke in Spanish,so that Alexandra wouldn't understand...
I am enjoying reading this ...

Thank you for the kind review. Yes, Jorge speaks Spanish more often than the others.

I suspect Jorge going out with the herd is a recipe for disaster. Herding is hard work. Cord's family are really nice people who undoubtedly raised a good son. And Cord doesn't seem to have his father's old-world insistence on being HEAD of the house. Very good story that I look forward to reading again.

Just the sound of the screen door smacking takes me back to being a boy on the farm. There was always fried chicken in the kitchen cabinet, even in 100 degree weather, with no air conditioning. How it didn't kill us I'll never know, but it never made us sick back then. Today, we'd die for sure. Thanks for sharing.

I tend to believe we were healthier back then because we got a few germs in us. It built immunity. LOL Thank you for the kind review.

An enjoyable horse ride turns into an altercation.

The use of Spanish appropriate, but some readers may not know what is being spoken.

Perhaps add an English translation? Just a suggestion.

Interesting story.

I did put in English translation. In the long one, Seth repeats it in English. Maybe it's not clear. I'll check it. Thank you for the kind review.

Very nice. Nice scenes. Nice conversations. Nice family. This was another well written and wholesome chapter.

notes

"How can I help?"

- Seriously, These four words may be overused in your stories.

Slightly raising her blouse, Rosa exposed a holstered gun.

- how big is her 'blouse'?

I have gone out of my way to not use 'How can I help?' I've cut out most of them. Sorry you didn't notice. As for the size of the blouse, I'm not sure of the inches. I know I have to raise mine slightly. Thank you for the kind review.

I did notice. I read the characters speaking about Cord's helping.

How about instead of blouse, you say sweater, or coat. Even when I wear my gun. I always wear a long sweater or coat. Anything else will either ride up or the bulge would be visible. In my mind, a blouse is a thin material garment. Like a shirt but not. I guess, you would know better.

I thought guns are illegal in Illinois, especially in Chicago. the problem with a sweater or coat is they are in Texas. We've already it 98 degrees a few days. Today, it's cooler, only 82. I promise to keep and eyes on the helping issue.
reply by lancellot on 11-Apr-2022
Nope. Supreme court made carrying and owning guns legal across the country a few years ago.

I just read that handguns are illegal in Illinois unless bought before 1982. I'm originally from Illinois. Move from the state when my husband jointed the Army.
reply by lancellot on 12-Apr-2022
Nope. Handguns are legal in every state now. Here you just need a FOID card. And to carry in public you need to take a class and get your permit.
reply by the author on 12-Apr-2022
Wow! so much for the media saying Chicago has the strictest gun laws in the country.
reply by lancellot on 12-Apr-2022
It had, but the SCOUTS ruling ended that across most of the country. I think California and New York make you apply at your local police station for a permit, and they drag things out until you give up.

I've heard Chicago's mayor speak. She talked like Chicago had a stick gun law and all the crime was being comment by illegal guns coming from other states.

Lori lies a lot. It's not all her fault. She is not allowed speak the truth. She would be fired if she did. That has happened to leaders who dared do it.

Chicago does have very strict gun laws. We just aren't allowed to enforce them. The simple truth is, If we enforced the laws, most of the crime would stop and the city would be a great deal safer and would thrive.

But, we are not allowed to do that. Most of the crime is committed by young black males. If we enforced the laws and sentences, they would go and stay in prison. But, that is not allowed in our city and state. Black people are a protected class here. They also commit the majority of crime. But, because of the politics and ideology of most of the public, media and voters, we are not allowed to say or to do anything about it. We can only pass laws, we don't enforce and blame Indiana (because they are a red state)
