I relate to your nostalgia about the memories inherent in a car. Volkswagen 'bugs' were very popular in my learning-to-drive days also. I remember their idiosyncrasies that you have described with humour here.

Thank you! Fun to know those were your days, too. I still have nightmares about nearly stalling on the railroad tracks!

I know someone who got drunk one night, stupidly chose to drive his car, then went to sleep in it straddling the railway lines. Luckily it was on a long straight stretch and the train was able to stop. The driver was woken up by an irate train driver shaking him.

Oh, my gosh! Extremely lucky for him. I still do not enjoy crossing the tracks.

Let us change the subject, then! I hope you are enjoying a lovely autumn time.

Yes, I love the changing colours but there are lots of trees around here and I spend time sweeping when I'd probably prefer doing something else.

I truly enjoyed this great and fun post.
My brother had about the same time, a yellow bug to go back and forth to college. It was the first car in our family. Did I say yellow? He had damaged two fenders in front and they never got fixed but had been painted green for an undercoat and the trunk held down by wire! But that bug kept running!
Best wishes and thanks for the read.
Mary

Ah, Mary, I love hearing how my stories spark your own memories! Those bugs seemed indestructible. And thank you so much, again, for your wonderful edits! I love learning from you. -Shaunna

It's always a fun adventure to think way back to some of those special times that have stayed with us forever. I too had one of those 65 bugs, and after the floor board rotted out, I used two-by-fours and U-bolts to re-enforce and keep driving it. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Love your Punchbuggy memories. My, we had a carport when we first moved to Florida. No car though.... a fun one for your book and aptly illustrated. Sending you my best today as always and best wishes for the contest

Mama,
It is surprising that such an old car still even runs at all. It could see how it would bring back the past and all the good things that the car brought with it. I like how the background matches the car.
Keep writing and stay healthy

This brings back memories of when I lived in Bremerhaven, Germany. My husband was a Military Police Officer and Guard, guarding ships in the North Sea. Anyway, we had a car like this. I liked driving this car. One day it stopped running and I pushed it home. This German man came up to me and told me to leave the car on the side of the road and come home with him. Oh, my memories of yesterday. Thank you for the great post.
