This is an interesting and well-presented story of your struggles with the dentist. I'll bet that same reason, some unthinking dentist in the past, is responsible for many dental chair fears. Great tale of overcoming your phobia. Smile.

Going to the dentist is not always the easiest thing there is...especially if you need an extraction. If someone smack, you on the arm when you were little perhaps, he scared you.

This is a very interesting story. Reading that this phobia began with an experience from childhood, reminds me that many of our issues can be traced back to our childhood. Your story was very captivating, and your picture compliments the story well. Nice job.

Very well written, and completely understandable. I chose to go to a dentist whose slogan was "We service the nervous", which sounded good to me. I only have to raise my hand as a signal for him to stop for a moment. I think your entry is excellent, and will resonate with many. Best wishes for the contest.

Loved this! You managed to make this humourous while at the same time making me feel your terror. One thing I noticed. "I got toothache and had to do something about it." Should probably have an "a" before toothache. Otherwise spot on!

I guess after reading this, I'll call an make a dental appointment. I have moved to a new state an am reluctant to search for a new dentist. I enjoyed your story as your fear is justified. I hated the initial needle to kill any pain, even though the sound of the drill is maddening. My previous dentist would say, "This will only take a few minutes." There was a clock on the wall that I would focus on, which took my mind off what was happening. Fortunately, my fear wasn't as deep rooted as your. I'm glad that all you have to do now, is stay away from peppermint.

I'm not really afraid of the dentist, but I think most people are extremely anxious. Once upon a time they did their business while we were sitting upright, now they lower your body, so one feels as though you're slipping off the back of the chair, my anxiety is feeling vulnerable, like our lives are in in some stranger's hands. I understand, but I can cooperate. Thanks for sharing, blessings Roy

This is an exceptionally well written story that encourages the reader to go along with the experience. Anyone who has ever experienced a panic attack can empathize fully. Sometimes those childhood experiences are so traumatic that we don't associate them with adult issues. This is a terrific entry for the contest. I found one questionable issue as shown below.

A very interesting story. I can identify with you to a very large extent. I hate doctors, especially dentists. I have to get a filling done but I keep putting it off. Very well written.
