Wow! This is a beautifully written poem, with a nice flow and an interesting story told in well-chosen rhyme. Thank you for sharing such a lovely story of temporarily requited love.

My first love actually went on to become a TV and movie star. Steven Weber, of "Chicago Med," "Mom," "Wings" and "Single White Female" fame, was a classmate of mine through fifth grade. He was handsome, talented and very funny, and I was immediately smitten. Sadly, he never knew of my feelings, so I never got to be one of the two women he divorced. (Perhaps I was lucky my love was unrequited!) Good luck in the contest.

Wow! Thank you so very much, Michele. I appreciate your thoughtful and insightful review. Your story made me chuckle. Dannie is in his 4th marriage. It's funny because he said they had to look like me. Oh well, I have never been married. I'm okay with it. Thanks for reading, reviewing and rating my story.

This love poem, An Ode to Dannie Gene, is a terrific re-capture of that first love who resides still in the memory. "Distance and time", as in many lives, causes new roads and futures to happen. Still, there is this ode.

You have written a very wonderful poem about your first love. You have a great memory about what you did and how you reacted through your puppy loved days.

Any one who experienced that first love, either real or imagined, will surely relate to this heart warming story. I have very vivid memories of mine. I also have many regrets caused by overwhelming shyness, and the failure to take advantage of the many chances I passed on as a result of that shyness.

I am truly honored and thankful for this thoughtful and insightful review. As a writer, my goal is to always connect with the hearts and memories of the reviewer. As you can read from the story, I had quite a few insecurities of my own. We still keep in touch a couple times a year by phone or text. Thank you for sharing your story and for granting my work such a favorable rating!

This is a very well written and very sweet Ode to Dannie Gene. You used very good descriptive words and the art work you chose went well with your words. It made me think of when I was a teen and my first love. Best wishes in the contest. Teri

Regardless of what we write the storyline within our mind can never express accurately how we truly feel. When I go melancoly I think of Pat Boone singing April Love.

Wow! Thank you, Tom. You are absolutely right. Words may be powerhouses of energy, but many times it's just difficult to find one that really expresses what you feel. As for me, I like Bobby Vinton's Blue Velvet. Thanks for reading and reviewing my work.
