Interesting comments. Some of which only those adopted can truly understand or relate to.

The question of are (your adopted parents) your real parents is one anybody with any knowledge of a good adoption would not even ask. Used to make me want to smack the asker.

I did...once. but, that is a story left untold, at least in this forum.

Hello Lisa May, being adopted was the best thing that could have ever happened to you. You were nurtured, loved, and encouraged. Your life became 1000% better than if you had remained with your birth mother.
Your mother and father are the ones who took care of you and all your needs, and that was a blessing. A story of truth, pain, and love. As this is a contest entry, I wish you good luck. LateBloomer

Anyone can birth a child but to raise them takes an extraordinary character who loves unconditionally. "Is that the one who raised you, or your real mother/father?" Excuse me?!! My 'real parents' will always be the ones who loved me and encouraged me into the fulfilling life their support made possible.

This close is totally captivating. "They say 'blood is thicker than water'. I was watered with love. Blood can be messy."

Amazing story. I am sure the lives of adoptees are difficult for many reasons. However, adoption can be a gift from God as yours seems to be. Thank you for sharing this story.

That was a very interesting story. Your story was very captivating from beginning to end. It was a blessing that you was adopted by loving people. This was well written.

A well written, moving and uplifting story. The phrase 'primal wound' is a new one to me, but makes perfect sense. While I was sad to read of your unhappy start and the shortcomings of your natural parents, how wonderful that folk like Nicola and Tom exist in this world.
I particularly loved your ending about blood and water. What an excellent image to wrap up on. x

Hi Lisa,
A very moving story. I think God was looking out for you, gave you terrific parents in Nola and Tom. It sounds like they knew how to bring up their children.
One question... do we call you Lisa, or Jenny? Perhaps LisaMay is just your pen name?
Anyway, this is nicely written. You should be a contender in the contest. Good Luck!
And thanks for sharing.
Hugs,
Kimbob

A poignant write Lisa and thank you for sharing your very personal story here and your thoughts on adoption and finding out what your real Mother was like. With this knowledge you knew that you had the best life could offer and you could see how things might have turned out and your family are scattered about and are really strangers to you. Adoption can be complex at times, but often adoptive parents are so keen to have a child that they give the best of themselves, a fine write Lisa, love Dolly x

You don't need to worry about not saying enough about Tom and Nola. Your love and admiration for them is obvious in every mention, as is the contrast between them and your birth parents.

I'm sure your story will have a better chance than mine, because you're the adoptee. As I mention in my story, an adoptive parent, when all is said and done, is simply a parent, while an adoptee carries around an entire other set of baggage that no one not in that position can fully understand. You express that feeling beautifully, and really bring the reader in with you. I haven't read the other entries yet, but I'd expect that your very personal expression of what it's like to be adopted will go over well with the judges. Good luck.

I am adopted by my father, my Daddy. I know my birth father, but he is not my father. He was not in a good place when Mom remarried and thought it best to get clean and give us a life he couldn't. I love him for that because I got one of the best father's in the world. My Father is the man who raised me and I make that well known, and I talk about him a crazy amount, including to my birth father.

You were blessed and there was an angel looking out for you.
