I enjoyed your piece, it is well written and descriptive. You did a good job with the prompt and this is a perfect entry for the contest. It should do well. I like the shorter paragraphs that you used, makes for an easy read.

Thank you so much for your kindness. The picture is our wedding day. Mike was very ill and could barely stand alone, but he insisted for our vows.... with props around him and people in case he fell. We shared a lot of good times and the bad, but most of all we shared our love for each other.

This sounds like a definite winner. There's warmth, emotion, detail, descriptions, dialogue and undeniable sparks of a developing romance. He got the girl and you got the guy. I enjoyed the unconventional style you used by writing to him as you reminisce. Best wishes in the contest.

Carol,

This is a beautifully written story of how a friendship suddenly changed course, and changed your life forever. I know how much your heart still aches, but writing about these wonderful memories must lighten your heart a little. Nice to read a story about a man that is full of light!

Thanks, Sue. I wrote this one for you! It certainly isn't on the dark side. LOL I cried, but they were happy tears. I do miss him very much but I will be forever grateful for the time we had together.

I'm so glad you are smiling. Think about him when you write happy fiction with other men as stars. :-)

Ah, only you can write these things well. Love and attraction on the unrelated female/male side is a complete mystery a complete and utter fascination to those of us that chase after answers, but after searching I've discover there aren't any, but devotion and commitment is a different thing altogether. Beautifully written Carol, blessings Roy

Thank you so much for your kindness, Roy. This picture was on our wedding day. He was very ill and could barely stand alone, but he was determined. People were all around us in case he fell. We had many years together as friends and I was blessed to hold his hand till the end. Our memories are held securely in my heart forever.

What a beautiful love story. Sometimes best friends find that friendship is the glue that makes for a wonderful and lasting relationship. This should do very well in the non-fiction writing contest.

Thank you so much. WE were friends for many years through the rough and rocky times and then when he was terminally ill. I never let loose of his hand or heart. Our memories are blessings within my heart forever.

Wow. You looked great in the photo with your new boyfriend. It's too bad that he passed away. But the memorable experience will live in your heart forever.

Well done and good luck.

WE were together as friends and then a couple and then marriage through all the rough, rocky times and then when he was terminally ill. I always felt blessed to have him by my side. The picture was our wedding when he could barely stand alone, but he was determined. We had people all around in case he started to fall. I will love him forever.

Written from the heart in an engaging manner that brought a tear to my eye at your loss. Such a love is a rare find - distilled/fermented over the years until the cork popped. There is a time and a place for everything, and a season... so sad for you it couldn't last longer. You'll be together again, then you can begin again.

I miss him with every breath but I don't regret the time we had. As friends we helped each other through some very tough times. As a couple we might not have withstood them, but as friends we were solid. Later, I held his hand until the very end. The picture is our wedding. He could barely stand but he was determined to do it on his own. Of course, I had people everywhere to catch him if he fell. God blessed us in so many ways.

In the photo, I surmised it was your wedding, from the flower in his lapel and the lovely dress you are wearing. Such a happy day for your both.

Thank you so much, Beth. The picture is our wedding day. He was so ill and could barely stand, but was determined to do it on his own. We had 42 years as friends, supporters, a couple and then marriage. God's plan was perfect for us and I feel blessed.

Carol,

How sweet!! I have not read anything about you and your lover boy in a while. It is a good, safe, happy topic that always seems to make you smile.

I love that special relationship the two of you had. Thank you!

Me too! The picture is our wedding day. He was very ill by then and could barely stand on his own... but the picture says so much more. God blessed us in so many ways and my heart will always belong to him. I miss him with every breath but he touches me daily with our memories.
