This is a lovely story, Carol. I was totally into it. A great example of the second time around. It's a great relationship when the couple can be best friends as well. Good Job. Didn't see any errors. Nancy:)

Wonderful memories go a long ways toward filling the voids of less exciting or memorable days. So, although it's morning, it's bound to be 5 o'clock somewhere, and I think I'll just mix a drink and try to nod off to more adventurous times. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Well, I won't change my old review, but since you've posted it again, I'll review it again. LOL.

Aw, Carol, that was a lovely story about how you and your forever soulmate met. I'm sorry you lost him too soon. But the memories will be with you forever. The best marriages are those that began as friends. Marriages that are formed on that first burst of passion have nothing left when that fizzles out. Friendship lasts. Good luck in the contest, my friend. Love and hugs. Sandra xx

Thanks so much, Sandra. We had 42 years of friendship, support, and difficult times to build a lasting relationship. Those moments seemed far more important than the piece of paper but in the end I am glad we married, even if he was too ill to really enjoy life. We were blessed.

You have described The start of A romantic relationship that many of us dream of. No big deal, a passionate kiss outside the bathroom... Both drinking alcohol... A bunch of people very close by... But, yes! That sounded amazing! I felt like one of the party guests standing in the shadows, watching secretly. Lol

Great story! Hugs to you!

I wish you could see the picture, LeAnn. It is our wedding day in our back yard because Mike couldn't walk very well by that time, but it is obvious we are both very happy. Funny how some of us take life so nonchalantly when we are young and seem unaware of the trials our futures might bring. I was blessed to have many good years and I will love him forever. The memories live in my heart.

I do like this story better, Carol. You have such a beautiful love story. This bit about the beginning is special. The picture is beautiful too. Good luck in the contest.

The picture is our wedding day in the back yard. We were both very happy. Even though Mike was very ill by then and his legs would barely hold him, he was determined to stand on his own. It was a short ceremony with family and we were both blessed.

Oh Carol, this is a beautiful story, and I am glad you shared it. It must have given you happy memories to write it, although doubtless tinged with sad thoughts that he is no longer here to share life with you. I hope it does well in the non-fiction contest.
Wendy

We were 18 years as friends and 22 years as a couple. He got sick in 2008 but still could get around until about 2013 and then he started going down hill. I closed my business and took care of him and my parents full time. We were only married officially two years because he wanted me to get his benefits when he passed. I loved him and it didn't matter one way or the other. We were always together even when we were friends because he lived next door, worked for me, and his wife was a major alcoholic. I think God wanted us to meet so I could take care of him, because even his girls said they never would have done what I did.

Aww, this is so sweet. I loved it and more so because it is true. As usual, your writing is beautiful and touching. I'm so glad to see you going strong again. I was a bit worried when I wasn't seeing any of your writing. Good luck in the contest.

What a love story. That could have been made for TV. You did a great job explaining how he told you he loved you, I didn't see any errors. Have a great night. Shirley

Sometimes in life, you find the love of your life. Evidently you found yours and decided to write your story. Did your friend pass away or move to another town, no wonder you miss him.

Alas for a once upon a time love that lingers on in memories. The recollections of a widowed lady, of the night her lover declared himself, are tender and romantic. She was a sensible, down-to-earth type while he was a dashing, attractive man who made all his girlfriends' dreams come true. The one he truly loved was the sensible down-to-earth girl who had been at his side throughout his divorce and hers. At first she didn't believe him, until he kissed her again.
Lovely romantic stuff. Well done cheers Cass

    Thank you so much, Cass...

We were friends for a very very long time and were fortunate to share our later years together as man and wife. He became terminally ill and I never left his side. Our memories will live within my heart forever.
