There's such a feeling of peace and calmness to your free verse. I like the personification of the night's drifting and ambling, and the dawn's ushering in the promise of a new day. I also like the consonance of the /l/ sounds throughout. Best wishes in the contest. Carol

A wonderful free verse poem entry. The first stanza hooked me in with the birds and their lullabies. I particularly liked this line:
night drifts on lavender shadows - loved it. Beautiful picture too. I spent the last two evenings watching the sun go down - an amazing hue of orange and yellow. Life is good. Thank you for sharing this most enjoyable read and best of luck in the competition.

Thank you very much DD. I adore watching sunsets and the colors of the sky... but it seems my back garden develops shades of lavender as the sun goes down... it is shady. So appreciate you DD!!!

A most soothing and peaceful free verse that creates a sense of security during these stressful times. Night will always be followed by dawn of a new day. Hope is eternal...

I really like this poem with words somnolent throughout. I love the line "night drifts on lavender shadows." I wish I'd thought of that. Also, I love the note of optimism that you end with.

This is a nicely done free verse poem. The line breaks are chosen well to accentuate the images and morals of the poem. It seems the mockingbird ushers in the sunset and the sunset the knowledge of the hope of another
day.
Good luck in the contest, Melissa.
Keep writing and stay healthy.

Your ultra-concise free-verse poem makes excellent use of both literal and figurative language to paint a lovely nighttime scene of comforting sounds and peace.
