Karenina,
This is a good ode to Emily Dickenson who seems to be one of your inspirations. This could show the effect of seeing her grave as a tourist and also the imagination that she and all poets have in their writing.
Keep writing and stay healthy

I do visit her grave often-- it is an inspiration to see the many roses left there, and the dozens of poems folded up and weighted down by small rocks, left atop her gravestone. She most certainly is my favorite poet. Thanks!

That is a fine tribute, to Emily Dickinson, and how wonderful that you were able to visit her burial site. Your celestial imagery throughout the night sky is finely done and smoothly incorporated. Beautiful poem.

I go there twice a month. I know it may sound odd ~ but it is a place of serenity. Many leave single roses upon her grave and also leave folded bits of poetry weighted with small rocks atop her gravestone...

For one, such as she, who never found acceptance in her lifetime, how pleased she must be that after her death her sister, Lavinia gathered her poems and found a publisher to share them with the world!

    Thanks,

    Karenina

I love the thought of dwelling in possibility and this is the trait of an eternal optimist and I love Mahatma Gandhi's words too: Live like you will die tomorrow, and learn like you live forever. A fine tribute write with well chosen words from the heart, love Dolly x

You did an awesome job, Karenina, with your free verse poem of tribute to Emily Dickinson. What a special place to be able to visit one of the great's grave. The picture is perfect. Your words are equally perfect, too. They flow so smoothly and create great imagery. The words of Emily interwoven with yours made an awesome combination. It's difficult to tell which are her words ( I do know) and which are yours--they blend so well. I like how you used the words 'called back' which appear on her headstone and how your related them to your present time.
Respectfully, Jan

Hello K.

You've knitted some beautiful words and thoughts together to relate your thoughts of Emily Dickinson. I have read about her life and poetry, and she believed poems should reflect what is in one's heart and soul. I can identify with that. Your story of visiting her grave is interesting. There is an ethereal sense to this poem.

It's beautifully worded and well written.

Robert

I enjoyed your poem, K. I'm slightly embarrassed to admit that I haven't read any of Emily Dickinson's work. What are your favorite books, poems? Where do the quotes come from? Your poem is thoughtful and beautifully written.

    I have several Dickinson Anthologies...

I received my first when I was eleven--and began writing immediately!

The quotes are from her poems...

Google her poetry! All of it is online these days.

She was not successful in her lifetime...only a handful of poems published in a local newspaper.

After her death, her sister, Lavinia championed her work until a publisher finally "took a chance."

Posthumously she is one of the most beloved poets!

    Thanks,

    Karenina

This is so beautiful. It brought tears to my eyes. "Hope" is one of my favorite poems. I keep it in a place where I see it frequently. I have a book of all Dickinson's poems.

Thanks! I do love her writing...

    And her perseverance!

She never found acceptance in her lifetime.

After her death her sister, Lavinia, gathered her work and found a publisher.

    The rest is history!

She wrote because she loved to write!

Your poem gave me goosebumps... in admiration of your skill in evoking through words - while referencing another poet - such feelings of the enduring nature of love (tied in with imagery of endless space and its magical elements). It is dreamlike, yet etched in life and death's realities as well:
"Called Back"
etched on her gravestone;
so we were,
and here we are...

You just made me smile! Six stars!
Wait until I tell Emily! She's the reason I write.

I received an anthology of her poems when I was eleven...

    "I'm Nobody" resonated with me...

    Thanks so much!
